Samsung Galaxy S10 facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is a group of cool smartphones made by Samsung Electronics. These phones are part of the popular Samsung Galaxy S series. The Galaxy S10 phones were special because they celebrated the 10th birthday of Samsung's top phone line, the Galaxy S series.

Samsung showed off these phones at an event on February 20, 2019. They started selling them in some places like Australia and the United States on March 6, 2019, and then all over the world on March 8, 2019.

There are a few different models in the Galaxy S10 family. The main ones are the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+. The S10+ is a bit bigger and has an extra camera on the front. Samsung also made a smaller, more affordable phone called the Galaxy S10e. Later, they released a bigger version called the Galaxy S10 5G which can connect to super-fast 5G networks. In 2020, a simpler model, the Galaxy S10 Lite, also came out.

When they first launched, the Galaxy S10e cost around $749, the S10 was about $899, and the S10+ was $999. The special S10 5G cost more, around $1299.

On March 6, 2020, Samsung released the next generation of phones, the Samsung Galaxy S20.

Awesome Features of the Galaxy S10

The Galaxy S10 phones come with many cool features. They have great screens, powerful parts inside, and amazing cameras.

Bright and Clear Displays

The main S10 and S10+ phones have big, beautiful screens. The S10 has a 6.1-inch screen, and the S10+ has a 6.4-inch screen. These are called "Dynamic AMOLED" displays. They show super clear pictures and bright colors. They also support something called HDR10+, which makes videos look even better.

A cool thing about these screens is that they curve around the sides of the phone. Also, the front camera is in a small, round cutout on the screen itself. This is different from older phones that had a "notch" at the top.

The S10 and S10+ also have a special fingerprint reader hidden under the screen. This lets you unlock your phone just by touching the display. The S10e has its fingerprint reader on the side power button.

Powerful Inside Parts

Different versions of the S10 use different powerful "brains" called system-on-chips (SoCs).

  • Most phones around the world use the Exynos 9820 chip.
  • Phones sold in the U.S., Canada, China, and some other places use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip.

These phones come with lots of storage for your apps, photos, and videos. You can get them with 128 GB or 512 GB of storage. The S10+ even has a huge 1 terabyte (1000 GB) option! They also have plenty of RAM (8GB or 12GB) to help apps run smoothly.

Long-Lasting Batteries

The S10 phones have good batteries to keep them going all day.

  • The S10 has a 3400 mAh battery.
  • The S10+ has a 4100 mAh battery.
  • The S10 5G and S10 Lite have even bigger 4500 mAh batteries.

These phones can charge wirelessly using Qi technology. What's really neat is that they can also wirelessly charge other Qi-compatible devices, like wireless earbuds, just by placing them on the back of the phone!

Amazing Cameras for Photos and Videos

The S10 and S10+ have three cameras on the back:

  • A 12-megapixel main camera that takes great photos in different light.
  • A 12-megapixel telephoto camera that lets you zoom in without losing quality.
  • A 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera that captures a much wider view, perfect for landscapes or group photos.

The S10+ has two front cameras, which help make your selfies look even better. All these cameras can record amazing 4K videos and support HDR10+ for vibrant colors. The camera app also has cool features like "Shot Suggestion" to help you take better pictures and "Artistic Live Filters." You can even post directly to Instagram from the camera!

The S10 5G has extra 3D cameras on both the front and back. These are called "time-of-flight" cameras and help with depth sensing.

Different Galaxy S10 Models

Besides the main S10 and S10+, Samsung made other versions:

  • Galaxy S10e: This is a smaller, simpler version. It has a flat 5.8-inch screen and doesn't have the telephoto camera. Its fingerprint reader is on the side.
  • Galaxy S10 5G: This is a bigger phone with a 6.7-inch screen. It can connect to super-fast 5G internet. It also has those special 3D cameras.
  • Galaxy S10 Lite: Released in 2020, this is a more affordable version. It has a 6.5-inch screen and a big 4500 mAh battery. Unlike the other S10 models, it doesn't have a headphone jack or wireless charging.

The S10 series (except for the S10 Lite) was the last group of Galaxy S phones to have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Newer models like the S20 do not have one.

Cool Colors to Choose From

The Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ came in many colors like Prism White, Prism Black, Prism Green, Prism Blue, Cardinal Red, Flamingo Pink, and Smoke Blue. The S10e also had a bright Canary Yellow option.

The S10 5G came in Crown Silver, Majestic Black, and Royal Gold. If you got the special Galaxy S10+ Performance Edition, you could choose Ceramic Black or Ceramic White. These ceramic models also had a huge 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage!

How the Software Works

The S10 phones first came with Android 9.0 "Pie". They were the first Samsung phones to use a new design for their Android system called One UI. This new design makes it easier to use the phone with one hand, especially on big screens. It moves important buttons and information closer to the bottom of the screen where your thumb can reach them easily.

Samsung later updated the Galaxy S10 series to Android 10 on November 28, 2019. This update brought One UI version 2.0.

Samsung has promised that all S10 phones will get at least three major Android software updates. This means they will stay updated for a long time! For example, all S10 models were confirmed to get the Android 11 update with One UI 3.

Important Fixes

There was a problem with the fingerprint scanner on some S10 phones. It allowed people to unlock the phone if they used a certain type of silicone screen protector. Samsung quickly fixed this problem with an update on October 23, 2019.
