The Samsung Galaxy S20 is a group of Android smartphones made by Samsung Electronics. They are part of the Galaxy S series and came after the Galaxy S10 series.
The first three phones, the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra, were shown on February 11, 2020. A fourth phone, the Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition), was revealed later on September 23, 2020. These phones brought new features like a super smooth 120 Hz screen and better cameras. The cameras could even record videos in amazing 8K video quality.
The S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra were first sold in the United States on March 6, 2020. The S20 FE came out a bit later, on October 2, 2020. These phones were the first to get a special fast-charger certification from the USB Implementers Forum. The Galaxy S20 series was later followed by the Galaxy S21 phones in January 2021.

How the Galaxy S20 Series Started
People first thought the new phone would be called the Galaxy S11. This was because it followed the Galaxy S10. But then, in January 2020, it was leaked that the phone would be called the Galaxy S20. This was because it was released in the year 2020.
Many details about the phones, like their features and look, were known even before they were officially announced. One person even got the phone a month early and confirmed everything.
Cool Design Features
The Galaxy S20 phones look a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. They have a screen called an Infinity-O display. This screen has a small round hole at the top center for the front camera.
Unlike older Galaxy S phones, the cameras on the back are not in the middle. They are in a rectangular bump in the corner. The S20 and S20 FE have three cameras in this bump. The S20+ has four cameras, and the S20 Ultra has four cameras in an even bigger bump.
The phones came in many cool colors. Some popular colors were Cloud Pink, Cloud White, Cloud Blue, Cosmic Grey, and Cosmic Black. The Fan Edition (S20 FE) had even more fun colors like Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, and Cloud Orange.
In June 2020, a special version called the Galaxy S20 5G UW was released. It had some differences, like less memory and no slot for an extra memory card. Also, a special Galaxy S20+ 5G BTS Edition was released in a "Haze Purple" color.
What's Inside: Specs
Powerful Processors
The Galaxy S20 phones use different main computer chips, called "system-on-chip" or SoC. Phones sold in Europe use the Exynos 990 chip. Phones in the U.S., Canada, Korea, China, and Japan use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip. These chips make the phones run super fast.
Screen and Display
The S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra have a very clear screen called "Dynamic AMOLED 2X." It shows amazing colors and supports HDR10+. The S20 FE has a "Super AMOLED" screen, which is also great.
- The S20 has a 6.2-inch screen.
- The S20 FE has a 6.5-inch screen.
- The S20+ has a 6.7-inch screen.
- The S20 Ultra has the biggest screen at 6.9 inches.
All these phones have a super smooth 120 Hz refresh rate. This means the screen updates 120 times per second, making everything look very fluid. The S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra have a special fingerprint sensor under the screen that uses sound waves. The S20 FE uses a more common optical fingerprint sensor under the screen.
Storage Space
The S20 FE comes with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM (short-term memory). The S20 and S20+ start with 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM. The S20 Ultra has the most, with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM.
For storing your apps and files, the S20 comes with 128 GB of storage. The S20 FE, S20+, and S20 Ultra can have more, up to 512 GB. You can also add a microSD card to most models to get up to 1 TB (1000 GB) of extra space!

- The S20 has a 4000 mAh battery.
- The S20 FE and S20+ have 4500 mAh batteries.
- The S20 Ultra has the biggest battery at 5000 mAh.
You can charge them quickly using a USB-C cable. The S20 Ultra can charge super fast at 45W. These phones also support wireless charging. Plus, they can even wirelessly charge other devices, which Samsung calls “PowerShare”.
Connecting to the World
All S20 series phones come with 5G connectivity, which is the newest and fastest mobile network. They also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting to other devices. The traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack was removed from these phones.
Awesome Cameras
The cameras on the Galaxy S20 series were a big improvement.
- The S20 and S20+ have a 12-megapixel main camera and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera. This telephoto camera, called “Space Zoom”, can zoom in 3 times using a mix of optical and digital zoom. It can also do a 30 times digital zoom.
- The S20+ also has an extra sensor called a time-of-flight sensor for better depth sensing.
- The Galaxy S20 Ultra has an amazing 108-megapixel main camera. It also has a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto camera that can do 4 times optical zoom and an incredible 100 times digital zoom.
All the S20 phones can record videos in high quality. The S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra can even record stunning 8K videos at 24 frames per second. This uses a lot of storage, about 600 MB per minute!
A cool new camera feature was Single Take. This lets you capture different types of photos and videos at the same time with just one tap.

Software and Updates
All four Galaxy S20 phones first came with Android 10 and Samsung's own user interface, One UI 2.1. Samsung later updated these phones to Android 11 with One UI 3 in late 2020. In 2022, they received the One UI 4 update based on Android 12. By November 2022, all phones got the One UI 5 update, which is based on Android 13.
Samsung promised that the S20 series would get three major Android software updates and four years of security updates. This means your phone stays safe and up-to-date for a long time.
