Champlin is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. It's a northern suburb of Minneapolis. In 2020, about 23,919 people lived there.

Champlin's Location and Landscape
Champlin is located along the Mississippi River. It is surrounded by other cities like Anoka and Brooklyn Park. The city is about 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Minneapolis.
The city covers an area of about 8.73 square miles (22.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with 0.56 square miles (1.45 square kilometers) being water. The average height above sea level in Champlin is 875 feet (267 meters). The Mississippi River is about one-eighth of a mile wide here.
Champlin's History and Growth
The Champlin area was first explored by Father Louis Hennepin. He was a Franciscan priest. Hennepin County is named after him. Later, an Indian trading post was set up in the area.
The first lasting settlement was started by Charles Miles. This area was first called Marshall Township. In 1859, it was divided into two towns: Champlin and Dayton.
How Champlin Got Its Name
Champlin is named after U.S. Navy Commodore Stephen Champlin. He was a naval officer who fought in the War of 1812. He also helped set the border between Canada and the United States. Stephen Champlin passed away in 1870.
In 1853, Stephen Champlin's daughter, Eliza Ellen Champlin, married John B. Cook. Cook was involved in real estate in the area. He also helped with the town's official setup. In 1947, part of Champlin Township became the village of Champlin. Then, in 1971, the township and the village joined together to form the city of Champlin.

The Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 serves the Champlin area. There are several schools here.
Elementary Schools
- Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy for Math and Environmental Science: This school teaches kindergarten through 5th grade. It focuses on math and environmental science. It was formed in 2010 by combining Champlin Elementary and Riverview Elementary.
- Oxbow Creek Elementary: This school opened a new building in 2001. It teaches students from kindergarten to 5th grade.
Middle School
- Jackson Middle School: This school was made larger in 2001. It teaches students from 6th to 8th grade. In 2006, the school built an observatory. This observatory is used for public viewing nights. It also helps students learn about astronomy.
High School
- Champlin Park High School: This is one of Minnesota's biggest high schools. It has about 2,975 students from 9th to 12th grade. The school has large sports and music programs.

Fun in Champlin: Festivals and Recreation
Champlin has a special event each year called the Father Hennepin Festival. It usually happens on the second weekend in June. This festival started in 1976 to celebrate Champlin's history.
Champlin Mill Pond
The Champlin Mill Pond is a great spot for outdoor fun. It's located near U.S. Highway 169 and Hayden Lake Road. The Minnesota DNR stocks the pond with different kinds of fish. You can find a fishing pier, a pavilion, and a park there. The park has picnic tables and grills for everyone to enjoy.
