Chanelle Price (born August 22, 1990) is an American middle-distance runner. She is known for her speed in the 800-meter run. Her best time for this race is 1 minute and 58.73 seconds. In 2014, she won a gold medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Chanelle has proudly represented the United States in many big competitions. She earned medals at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships and the 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics.

When she was in high school in 2008, she ran one of the fastest 800-meter times ever for an American high school girl. She was even named the High School Athlete of the Year. Chanelle went to the University of Tennessee. There, she helped her college team set world records in relay races. These included the distance medley relay and the 4 × 800 metres relay. She also set an American record in the 4 × 1500 metres relay. She won two national college titles in the distance medley relay. She also finished in the top three for the 800-meter race at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

High School Achievements

Chanelle Price was born in Livingston, New Jersey. She grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania. She went to Easton Area High School. In 2007, when she was 16, she won the Nike High School Nationals for the 800-meter race. Later that year, she competed against older athletes at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished seventh.

At the 2007 World Youth Championships in Athletics, she was leading the race. However, another runner accidentally blocked her. She ended up finishing sixth. In 2008, she ran a very fast 800-meter race at the Prefontaine Classic. Her time of 2:01.61 minutes was the second fastest ever for an American high school athlete. This amazing performance led her to compete in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. Because of her great results, she was chosen as the top female High School Athlete of the Year.

College Running Career

Chanelle received a special scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee. She studied journalism and electronic media. She joined the Tennessee Lady Volunteers track and field teams. In her first year, she placed sixth in the 800-meter race at the indoor conference championship. She then finished third at the outdoor conference championship.

In 2009, Chanelle and her teammates set a world indoor record in the distance medley relay. They won the national college title with a time of 10:50.98 minutes. More relay records followed at the Penn Relays. Chanelle and her teammates set an American record in the 4 × 800 metres relay. They also set a world best time in the 4 × 1500 metres relay. She won the American junior (under-20) title. She then earned a silver medal at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

During her second year, she had a leg injury. This limited her races. However, she still helped her team defend their relay titles at the Penn Relays. In 2011, she won the 800-meter title at her conference's indoor championship. She also won the distance medley relay. She finished third at the national college outdoor championships. This was her first time on the podium as an individual.

In her final year at University of Tennessee, she finished second in the 800-meter races both indoors and outdoors at her conference championships. She won the distance medley relay again at the national indoor meet. She finished third in the 800-meter race at the national outdoor championships for the second time. After college, she competed in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. She also won a gold medal at the 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics. She ended the season with a personal best of 2:00.15 minutes. Chanelle also did very well in her studies. She earned a scholarship for graduate studies in 2012.

Professional Running Career

After college, Chanelle became a professional runner. In 2013, she finished second at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. She ran her best indoor time of 2:02.93 minutes. Outdoors, she won a race at the Florida Relays. She also finished second at the Ponce Grand Prix. She ran her season's best of 2:00.88 minutes at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In 2013, Chanelle signed a contract with Nike.

In 2014, she again finished second at the 2014 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. She set a new personal record of 2:00.48 minutes. This time ranked her second in the world that year. It also earned her a spot on the team for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. In the final race, Chanelle led from the start. She won the world indoor title in the 800-meter race. Her winning time was a personal best of 2:00.09 minutes.

Later in 2014, she had a foot injury. She then started working with her college coach, JJ Clark, again. In 2015, Chanelle finished fifth in the 800-meter final at the 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A few weeks later, she helped another runner, Genzebe Dibaba, set a 1500 metres world record by setting the pace for her.

Chanelle continued her education. She earned a graduate certificate in non-profit management in 2015–2016. In 2016, she competed in the 2016 United States Olympic Trials (track and field). She later moved to Phoenix, Arizona to train with a new coach. In November 2019, she moved to Eugene, Oregon. She now trains with the Oregon Track Club and is coached by Mark Rowland.
