Chanelle Price (born August 22, 1990) is an American runner. She specializes in middle-distance races, especially the 800 meters. Her best time for the 800 meters is 1 minute and 58.73 seconds. In 2014, she won a gold medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Chanelle Price has represented the United States in several big competitions. She competed at the 2007 World Youth Championships in Athletics. She also won medals at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships and the 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics.

In 2008, she ran the second fastest 800-meter race ever for an American high school girl. Because of this, she was named the High School Athlete of the Year. She went to the University of Tennessee. There, she helped her college team break world records in relay races. She also set an American record in another relay event. She won two national college titles in relay races. She also placed in the top three for the 800 meters at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Chanelle Price's Running Journey

High School Years

Chanelle Price was born in Livingston, New Jersey. She grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania. She went to Easton Area High School there. In 2007, she won the Nike High School Nationals title in the 800 meters. She was only sixteen years old. Later that year, she raced at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and finished seventh.

At the 2007 World Youth Championships in Athletics, she was leading the race. But another runner blocked her in the final lap. She ended up finishing sixth. In 2008, she ran a personal best time of 2:01.61 minutes at the Prefontaine Classic. This was the second fastest time ever for an American high school athlete. This amazing run helped her get into the 2008 United States Olympic Trials (track and field). She was chosen as the female High School Athlete of the Year for her great performances.

College Running Career

Chanelle Price received a special scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee. She studied journalism and electronic media there. She joined the Tennessee Lady Volunteers cross country and track teams. In her first year, she placed sixth in the 800 meters at the SEC indoor championship. She then finished third at the SEC Outdoor championship.

In 2009, she helped her team set a world indoor record in the distance medley relay. They won the title at the NCAA Indoor Championships. More relay world records came at the Penn Relays in April. Chanelle and her teammates set an American record in the 4×800-meter relay. They also set a world best time in the 4 × 1500 metres relay. She won the American junior (under-20) title. She then won a silver medal at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.

In her second year of college, she had an injury to her leg. This limited her races. But she still helped her team defend their relay titles at the Penn Relays. In 2011, she won the SEC 800-meter title indoors. She also won the distance medley relay. She then placed sixth at the NCAA indoors. She won the SEC outdoor title that year. She also finished third at the NCAA outdoors. This was her first individual medal at that big meet.

In her final year at the University of Tennessee, she finished second in the SEC 800-meter races. She placed ninth individually at the NCAA indoor meet. There, she again won the distance medley relay with her school. She finished third for the second time at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. After college, she won a gold medal at the 2012 NACAC Under-23 Championships in Athletics. She ended the season with her personal best time of 2:00.15 minutes. While at university, Chanelle won two team titles and two individual medals in NCAA competitions. She also did well in her studies. She received a special scholarship for her studies after college. She was recognized four times for her good grades.

Professional Running

In her first year as a professional runner, she mostly competed in the United States. She finished second at the 2013 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Outdoors, she won at the Florida Relays. She was also runner-up at the Ponce Grand Prix. She ran her season's best time of 2:00.88 minutes at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. After 2013, Chanelle Price signed a contract with Nike.

The next year, she was again second at the 2014 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. She ran a personal best time of 2:00.48 minutes. This time ranked her first in the world that year. It also earned her a spot on the team for the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. In the final race, she led from the start. She won the world indoor title in the 800 meters. Her winning time was a personal best of 2:00.09 minutes.

In Fall 2014, she started working with her college coach, JJ Clark, again. In 2015, she finished 5th in the 800 meters at the 2015 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A few weeks later, she helped another runner, Genzebe Dibaba, set a new world record in the 1500 meters. Chanelle set the pace for her during the race.

Chanelle Price studied how to manage non-profit organizations in 2015–2016. In Fall 2016, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona to train. Her coach there is Ricky Soos. In November 2019, she moved to Eugene, Oregon. She now trains with the Oregon Track Club. Her current coach is Mark Rowland.
