History of Chase, Kansas
For thousands of years, the land that is now Kansas was home to Native American tribes. In 1803, the United States gained most of modern Kansas through the Louisiana Purchase.
Later, in 1854, the Kansas Territory was set up. Kansas officially became the 34th U.S. state in 1861. Rice County was established a few years later, in 1867.
How Chase Was Founded
The city of Chase was created in 1880. This happened when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway extended its train tracks to this area. The city was named after a railroad official.
The first post office in Chase opened in 1881. This was an important step for the new community.

Chase is located in Rice County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of about 0.29 square miles (0.72 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
