Chatsworth is a city located in Murray County, Georgia, United States. It is the main city, also known as the county seat, of Murray County. In 2020, about 4,874 people lived there, which was more than the 4,299 people in 2010.
A fun story says that the town got its name when a road sign with "Chatsworth" on it fell off a train passing by. Someone picked up the sign and put it on a post, and the name stuck! Chatsworth is also known for having the coldest temperature ever recorded in Georgia: -17°F (-27°C) on January 27, 1940.

History of Chatsworth
Chatsworth began in 1905 as a train stop for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. It officially became a town in 1906 and a city in 1923. In 1915, Chatsworth became the county seat of Murray County, taking over from Spring Place.
The city is about 750 feet (229 meters) above sea level. It sits on the west side of the Holly Creek valley. To the east, you can see Fort Mountain, which is 2,840 feet (866 meters) tall, and Cohutta Mountain, which is 2,780 feet (847 meters) tall.
Getting Around Chatsworth
Major roads like U.S. Route 76 and U.S. Route 411 go right through the middle of Chatsworth on Third Avenue. U.S. Route 76 goes west about 13 miles (21 km) to Dalton and southeast about 25 miles (40 km) to Ellijay. U.S. Route 411 goes south about 24 miles (39 km) to Fairmount and north about 31 miles (50 km) to Benton, Tennessee.
Georgia State Routes 2 and 52 also start in Chatsworth and head east. They go up into the Cohutta Mountains and pass by Fort Mountain State Park, which is about 7 miles (11 km) east of the city.
Geography and Water
Chatsworth covers a total area of about 5.1 square miles (13.2 square kilometers). Only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water.
Holly Creek flows along the eastern edge of the city. This creek eventually flows into the Conasauga River. The Conasauga River is part of a larger river system that includes the Oostanaula, Coosa, and Alabama River.
