Chilcote is a small village and civil parish located in Leicestershire, England. It's part of the North West Leicestershire district. In 2011, about 200 people lived here.
The name Chilcote has a cool meaning! It comes from old words that mean 'the cottages of the children'.
Where is Chilcote Located?
Chilcote sits in a very interesting spot in England. It's right on the edge of several counties.
A Village on the Borders
The village is very close to the borders of three other counties:
- Derbyshire is to the north.
- Staffordshire is to the west.
- Warwickshire is to the south.
This means that if you drive out of Chilcote, you can only go into Derbyshire or Warwickshire. You can't travel by road directly to another part of Leicestershire without first leaving the county!
The Shortest County Border
Chilcote is also famous for a special geographical feature. Its home county, Leicestershire, shares a border with Staffordshire that is super short. This border is only about one mile long!
This kind of short county border is very rare in the UK. There's only one other example like it. Because of this unique geography, you can go on a walk from Chilcote. This walk lets you visit four different counties in less than two hours! It's a great way to explore the local area.
