Gymnocalycium is a group of plants, also known as a genus, that belongs to the Cactaceae family. These unique plants are a type of succulent, meaning they store water. They don't have typical leaves.

You can find these plants growing naturally in South America. They live in countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. There are about 50 to 80 different kinds, or species, of Gymnocalycium. Many people also enjoy growing them as houseplants.
