Chloë Elise Hanslip (born September 28, 1987) is a talented British classical violinist. She started playing the violin at a very young age and quickly became known for her amazing musical skills.

A Young Musical Start

Chloë Hanslip was born in Guildford, England. She began playing the violin when she was just two years old! By age four, she performed by herself at the Purcell Room. When she was five, she played for the famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin. He was so impressed that he invited her to study at his special music school, the Yehudi Menuhin School. By the time she was ten, Chloë had already played in big concert halls. These included Carnegie Hall in New York City and the Royal Albert Hall in London. She performed all over Europe and North America.

Learning from Top Teachers

In 1995, Chloë began studying in Germany. Her teacher was Professor Zakhar Bron. He also taught other famous violinists like Maxim Vengerov and Vadim Repin. Besides her regular lessons, Chloë also took part in special classes called masterclasses. In these classes, she received advice from other great violinists. Some of these included Shlomo Mintz, Ida Haendel, and Maxim Vengerov.

On Screen and On Stage

In 1997, Chloë was featured in a TV show in Germany. She appeared with Igor Oistrakh and Professor Bron. She was also in a BBC documentary called Can You Make A Genius? This show aired in 2001. Chloë also played a young violin child prodigy in the movie Onegin. She acted alongside famous actors Ralph Fiennes and Liv Tyler.

Becoming a Recording Artist

When she was 13, Chloë made history. She became the youngest musician ever to sign with Warner Classics UK. Her first album came out in September 2001. She recorded it with the London Symphony Orchestra. Critics loved her debut album. Her second CD was released in 2002. It featured Max Bruch's Violin Concertos No. 1 and No. 3. She recorded these with the London Symphony Orchestra again.

Awards and Special Recognition

Chloë Hanslip has won many awards for her violin playing. She won first prize at the 2nd International Violin Competition in Novosibirsk, Russia. She also won four special prizes there. This led to concerts in Russia, France, and Japan. In 2000, she received a Scholarship from the Sibelius Foundation. This is one of Finland’s highest honors. It was given to her by the Finnish Ambassador. In 2002, she won the Echo Klassik Award. This was for Best Young Artist for her first album, “Chloë”. In 2003, she won the Classical Brits Young Performer award.

Performing for Royalty

Chloë has performed for members of the British Royal Family. In July 2001, she gave a private concert. It was at Frogmore House, Windsor, for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In December 2001, she performed at St. James's Palace. This performance was for Princess Anne, the Princess Royal. Chloë was invited to play for the Duke of Edinburgh again. This happened in May 2002 at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Major Concerts and Orchestras

In October 2001, Chloë performed at the Royal Albert Hall. She played with the Philharmonia Orchestra. At New Year, she performed Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor. She was the soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra. She also played the Bruch Concerto No. 1 with the London Mozart Players and the City of London Sinfonia. She went on to perform with many other orchestras. These included The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. In 2003, she made her debut in Japan. She played with the Tokyo Philharmonic.

Her Special Violin

Chloë Hanslip plays a very special violin. It was made in 1737 by Guarneri del Gesù. These violins are very rare and valuable.

Recent Work

In 2017, Chloë Hanslip became the first Artist in Association. This was with the Northern Chamber Orchestra. This means she works closely with them on different projects.
