History of St. Peter's Church
Early Beginnings and Norman Roots
St. Peter's Church has a very long history. It started way back in the 11th century, during the Norman period in England. When it was first built, it was much simpler than it is today. It had a main hall called a nave, a special area for the altar called a chancel, a small tower for bells known as a bell-cot, and a wooden entrance porch.
Changes Over the Centuries
Over hundreds of years, the church changed and grew. In the 14th and 17th centuries, new parts were added. These included two side sections called transepts, one on the north side and one on the south. A taller tower was also built.
One special feature is a beautiful stained-glass window. This window was made to honor Joseph Paxton, a famous gardener and architect.
The Inglis Chapel and 1800s Repairs
The church also has a part called the 'Inglis Chapel.' This chapel is named after the Inglis family, who were important people in Milton Bryan. Hugh Inglis, who was a Baron of Milton Bryan, paid for many important repairs and additions to the church in the 1800s. He chose a well-known architect named Robert Smirke to help with the work.
Church Activities and Community Events

Beyond regular services, the church also hosts fun community events. These include jumble sales, where people can buy and sell used items. There's also something called 'Café Church.'
