The Story of Ciel Water
Ciel water was first introduced by Coca-Cola Mexico in 1996. It started in states like Aguascalientes, Jalisco, and Zacatecas.
Expanding Across Mexico
In 1997, Ciel became available in Mexico City. By 2001, it reached more states, including Nuevo Leon and parts of Tamaulipas. In that same year, The Coca-Cola Company also launched a sparkling water version called Ciel Mineralizada in several areas.
In 2002, Coca-Cola acquired another bottled water brand named Risco. They changed Risco into Ciel, which made Ciel available in even more states like Guanajuato and Puebla.
New Flavors and Sparkling Waters
In 2005, Coca-Cola introduced Ciel Aquarius. This was a flavored water with no calories. It was later renamed Ciel+ in 2008. They also tried a product called Ciel Dasani, which was a special water with skin nutrients and fiber. It came in flavors like lemon-cucumber and grapefruit, but it was stopped a year later.
In 2006, The Coca-Cola Company launched Ciel Naturae. This was a line of sparkling flavored water with flavors like Jamaica and Peach. In 2007, it was renamed Ciel Finamente Gasificada. Later, in 2008, it was replaced by a new sparkling water line called Aquarius.
More Growth and Changes
In 2007, Ciel became available in more cities, including Saltillo and Monclova. Some other water brands also joined the Ciel family. For example, the purified water and club soda versions of the Peña Pura brand became Ciel. Also, the De los Angeles water brand merged with Ciel and was renamed Ciel De Los Angeles. At the end of 2008, Coca-Cola also acquired Manantial Water, which then became part of the Ciel product range.
Ciel products are bottled and delivered by the Coca-Cola system. However, a few Coca-Cola bottlers still sell their own water brands instead of Ciel in their areas. For example, Bebidas Refrescantes de Nogales sells Nana water, and Bepensa sells Cristal water.
Arca Continental, another company that distributes Coca-Cola products, also sells Ciel brands. But in their northern areas, they sell their own mineral water brand, Topo Chico, instead of Ciel Mineralizada.
Types of Ciel Water
