Club Career: Ciprian Tătărușanu's Journey
Early Days: Starting in Romania
Ciprian Tătărușanu was born in Bucharest, Romania. He began his football journey with a local club called Juventus. He started playing senior football at just 16 years old in Romania's second division.
Later, he joined Gloria Bistrița. He played his first game in Romania's top division (Liga I) on 23 May 2007. His team won that game 1–0 against Unirea Urziceni.
Steaua București: A Strong Period

In May 2008, when Ciprian was 22, he moved to FC Steaua București. The club paid €1.5 million for him. He spent the next season on loan back at Gloria Bistrița. This was because Steaua already had a main goalkeeper.
Ciprian played his first European club game on 16 July 2009. It was a 2–0 win against Újpest from Hungary in the UEFA Europa League. On 2 August, he played his first Liga I game for Steaua, winning 2–0 against Ceahlăul Piatra Neamț. In August 2010, he helped his team reach the Europa League group stage. He saved two penalties in a shootout against Grasshopper.
In June 2011, a club called Napoli offered €3 million for Ciprian, but Steaua said no. During his time in Bucharest, he played 187 games and helped his team win four national trophies.
Fiorentina: Moving to Italy
Ciprian decided not to sign a new contract with Steaua București. He left the club for free and joined the Italian team Fiorentina on 9 June 2014. He signed a five-year deal. He played his first game for Fiorentina on 18 September. It was a 3–0 win against Guingamp in the Europa League.
He played seven games in that competition, including a 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. On 6 January 2015, he played his first Serie A match, which was a 0–1 loss to Parma. Ciprian then became the main goalkeeper for eight games in a row. He played his last game of the 2014–15 season in a 3–0 win over Chievo.
After their previous goalkeeper left in July 2015, Ciprian became Fiorentina's top goalkeeper. His great performances earned him the "Romanian Footballer of the Year" award in 2015.
Nantes: Time in France
In July 2017, Ciprian moved to the French club Nantes. He played his first game for them on 12 August, a 0–1 loss to Marseille. He was named "man of the match" for how well he played. In December 2017, he came in second for the "Romanian Footballer of the Year" award.
Ciprian played 37 games in his first season with Nantes, all in the Ligue 1. He managed to keep twelve "clean sheets," meaning he didn't let the other team score in those games. In April 2019, he saved two penalty kicks in two games in a row.
Lyon: Another French Club
On 13 June 2019, Ciprian decided to stay in France and joined Olympique Lyonnais for free. He played his first game for Lyon on 18 December in a 4–1 win against Toulouse. He only played six games during his one year at Lyon. He was mainly a backup goalkeeper to the regular starter.
AC Milan: Back to Italy
On 12 September 2020, AC Milan announced that Ciprian Tătărușanu was their new player. He signed a three-year deal with the club. Lyon had said the day before that the transfer fee for the 34-year-old was €500,000.
He was the second-choice goalkeeper behind Gianluigi Donnarumma. Ciprian played his first game for AC Milan on 26 October. It was a 3–3 draw against Roma, because Donnarumma had tested positive for COVID-19. Ciprian also played in a big derby match against Inter Milan in January 2021. He was praised for his performance, even though his team lost 2–1.
The next season, Ciprian continued as AC Milan's backup goalkeeper, this time behind Mike Maignan. Maignan was injured in October 2021. With Ciprian in goal, AC Milan won four Serie A games in a row. On 7 November, Ciprian was the goalkeeper in the Milan Derby again. He saved a penalty kick from Lautaro Martínez in a 1–1 draw.
Abha: A New Adventure
On 10 August 2023, the Saudi Arabian club Abha announced that they had signed Ciprian Tătărușanu.

He was chosen for the team that would play in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. He played in all three group stage matches, including the first game against the host country, France.
