Nature at Comanche Point

Comanche Point is part of the Tejon Ranch. A group called the Tejon Ranch Conservancy helps manage and protect this area. They work to keep the natural environment safe.

Special Plants and Habitats

Comanche Point has unique natural features. There are special springs and wet areas called marshes. The water in these springs is a bit salty, or "alkali." These special conditions help rare and unique plants grow here.

Many of these plants are endemic, which means they only grow in this specific area. They are very important to the local environment.

Protecting the Environment

Even though the area is protected, some things can harm the plants and animals. One problem is overgrazing, which happens when too many animals eat the plants. This can damage the land.

Another issue comes from feral pigs. These are wild pigs that can dig up and damage the plants. Also, invasive plant species are a threat. These are plants that are not native to the area and can take over, pushing out the local plants.
