Joining the NFL: Buffalo Bills
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers picked Mace in the second round of the 2007 CFL Draft. However, just before the draft, Mace signed with the NFL's Buffalo Bills.
He played two seasons with the Bills. In 2008, he played in three games and made one tackle. He was not offered a new contract in 2009.
Mace later rejoined the Bills on July 31, 2009. He played in two more games, making one tackle and one interception. He was then waived by the Bills in December 2009.
Playing in the CFL: Calgary Stampeders
Mace's CFL rights were traded to the Calgary Stampeders on August 22, 2010. He signed with the Stampeders on August 29, 2010. Even though he was drafted by the Blue Bombers and played for the Bills, 2010 was his first time playing in the CFL.
In 2010, Mace played in eight games for the Stampeders. He recovered a fumble and ran it 60 yards for a touchdown. This happened in a game against Saskatchewan on October 17.
In 2011, Mace had a tough break. He suffered a serious injury to his Achilles tendon in the first week of the season. This injury meant he missed the rest of the year.
Mace came back strong in the 2012 CFL season. He played a much bigger role for the team. He started all 21 regular-season and playoff games. He made 25 tackles, forced two fumbles, and had one sack. He even caught a one-yard touchdown pass in a game against B.C. in October. After this successful season, he signed a new contract in December 2012.
Unfortunately, Mace faced another injury in 2013. He tore a shoulder muscle in the first week of the season. This injury required surgery and ended his season early.
In the 2014 CFL season, Mace started 12 games. He missed six games due to other injuries. He recorded 11 tackles and one sack. He also recovered a fumble for 10 yards, which helped set up a touchdown. He played in both of the Stampeders' playoff games. He knocked down a pass in the West Division Final and had a sack in Calgary's win in the 102nd Grey Cup.
After the 2014 season, Mace signed a new contract with the Stampeders. He also received the Presidents' Ring award. This award is given each year for great performance on and off the field. Mace was known for helping his community. He started a holiday food drive for food banks. He also created "Mace's Faces," a program that allowed 15 young people to attend every home game.
Mace did not play any games in 2015. He fractured his foot during the preseason. After the 2015 season, Corey Mace decided to retire from playing professional football. In his CFL career, he played in 40 regular-season games and 6 playoff games. He made 44 tackles and had 4 sacks.
