What is the CornerShot?
The CornerShot was designed by two former senior officers from the Israeli Army. Money for its creation came from American investors. The company that makes it is called Corner Shot Holdings, LLC. This company is based in Miami, USA, and has offices in Israel.
The CornerShot works because it has two main parts. These parts are connected by a strong steel hinge. This hinge allows the front part of the weapon to bend sideways. This design lets the user aim around a corner while staying safely hidden. Units have been sold in 15 different countries.
Different Types of CornerShot
The CornerShot comes in several different versions. Each version is designed for a specific use.
Standard Pistol Version
The most common type is the standard pistol version. It holds a regular semi-automatic pistol in its front section. A special remote system connects the pistol's trigger to a trigger on the back part of the CornerShot. This allows the user to fire the pistol from a safe position. This version is about 820 millimeters (32.7 inches) long. It weighs about 3.86 kilograms (8.5 pounds).
Grenade Launcher Version
There is also a version that fires 40 mm grenades. This model can only fire one round at a time. It can launch all types of 40 mm grenades. This includes less-deadly ammunition and tear gas capsules. After firing, the empty shell is automatically removed, making it easier to reload. A similar system is also available in a 37 mm size for police forces. This grenade launcher version is about 900 mm long and weighs 4.4 kg (9.5 lb). It can hit a single target up to 150 meters away. For covering a larger area with exploding ammunition, its range is up to 350 meters.
Assault Pistol Rifle (APR)
The Assault Pistol Rifle, or APR, version uses an assault pistol. This pistol is placed in the front part of the weapon. It allows the CornerShot to fire more powerful rifle bullets, like 5.56 mm ammunition. The APR pistol can also be taken out of the CornerShot frame and used on its own.
CornerShot Panzerfaust (CSP)
This version was first shown at a military trade show in Paris in 2004. The CornerShot Panzerfaust, or CSP, is made to fire Panzerfaust anti-tank rockets. Unlike other versions, it can turn up to 90 degrees. This gives it an even wider angle to aim around corners.
How the CornerShot Works
The standard CornerShot has a pistol mounted in its front section. This front section can bend sideways up to 60 degrees. A digital camera and a flashlight are attached near the pistol's barrel. On the back part of the weapon, there is a trigger. There is also a screen for the camera and controls for the camera and light. The camera screen can also bend sideways, allowing the user to see what the camera sees. This setup lets the user see and aim around a corner without exposing themselves to danger. The camera and flashlight allow it to be used both during the day and at night.
