Cornwall Wildlife Trust facts for kids
The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is a charity that started in 1962. It works only in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom.
This trust helps protect and look after Cornwall's amazing wildlife, its unique rocks and land (geology), and all the different places where plants and animals live (habitats). They manage over 50 special nature reserves, which cover about 4,300 acres (17.4 square kilometers). One of these special places is Looe Island.
The Cornwall Wildlife Trust is part of a bigger group called The Wildlife Trusts partnership. This partnership includes 46 wildlife trusts across the United Kingdom. The Cornwall Trust also works with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust on some projects. To keep everyone updated, the Cornwall Wildlife Trust publishes a magazine called Wild Cornwall three times a year.
The trust's work is guided by the Cornwall Biodiversity action plan. This plan helps them decide what to focus on. Two big projects they have are called "Living Seas" and "Living Landscapes." They also run ERCCIS, which stands for Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. This is a huge database that keeps track of where different animals and plants are seen, and details about the geology of the area. The trust also gives advice to people who are planning to build things on land, helping them make good choices for the environment.
The main office for the trust is located at Allet, which is close to Truro in Cornwall. Right next to their headquarters is one of their nature reserves called Five Acres. This reserve has two ponds and a mix of different types of trees, both broadleaf and conifer.
