County Center is a community in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. It's a special kind of place called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area with a name that the government uses for counting people, even though it's not a city or town.

In 2010, about 3,270 people lived here. By 2021, the number grew to an estimated 4,045 people. County Center is known for the McCoart Government Center, which is the main building for the county government. It's also next to Pfitzner Stadium. This stadium used to be the home field for a minor league baseball team.

History of County Center

County Center was officially created on March 29, 2002. A group of developers who owned the land set up the Prince William County Center Owners' Association. This group is a not-for-profit company. Its job is to provide services and support to everyone living in County Center.

Fun Things to Do in County Center

There are many fun things to do and places to visit in County Center. The Prince William County Center Clubhouse is a great spot. You can rent it for parties or other private events. It's also where the Owners' Association has its main office.

Parks and Outdoor Fun

County Center has several green spaces where you can enjoy nature. There are about 1.5 miles of walking trails for you to explore.

If you like golf, County Center is home to part of the Old Hickory Golf Club. This course was designed by Tim Freeland. The Lake Ridge Golf Course is also nearby in Lake Ridge.

For more outdoor adventures, you can visit several trails close by. The Neabsco Greenway Trail is about 3 miles away. The Lakeridge Marina Waterfront Trail is about 4 miles from County Center. The Bull Run Occoquan Trail is a bit further, about 6 miles away.

Airport Creek, a small stream, flows through County Center. It eventually leads to the Occoquan Reservoir.

You can cool off at two community pools in County Center. There's River Falls Pool on Chanceford Drive. Another pool is located behind the Clubhouse.

The Owners' Association also takes care of two tennis courts. These are available for residents to use.

Earl M. Cunard Park is a Prince William County park. It has about half a mile of trails for walking. You can also play basketball on its two courts.

Remembering History

The Prince William County Liberty Memorial is a special place. It features four steel bars from the World Trade Center. These pieces fell during the September 11, 2001 attacks. A plaque at the memorial lists the names of 22 people from the Prince William County area. They sadly died in those attacks.

Sports and Events

The G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium was once home to the Potomac Nationals baseball team. They played there from 1984 until 2019. The team then moved to Fredericksburg. The stadium, often called "the Pfitz," still hosts community events. For example, you can watch outdoor movies there during the summer.

Next to the stadium is NOVA BMX. This is a special track for bicycle motocross racing.

Getting Around County Center

County Center is well-connected by several major roads. Virginia State Route 294 (Prince William Parkway) links County Center to Manassas. It also connects to Woodbridge, Interstate 95, and U.S. Route 1.

Virginia State Route 28 (Centreville Road) and Virginia State Route 234 (Dumfries Road) also serve the area. Virginia State Route 642 (Hoadly Road) forms part of the western border. It connects to Virginia State Route 234 and Independent Hill. Virginia State Route 663 (Davis Ford Road) is another road on the western border. It links to Virginia State Route 612 and Buckhall.

You can also get around using the bus system. There are two bus stops in County Center. One is at Prince William Parkway near McCoart Government Center. This stop is on the 96 route. It connects to Manassas and Dale City. The other stop is at Prince William Parkway and Marblestone Drive. This stop connects to Lake Ridge and Dale City.

Where is County Center?

County Center is located in the southeastern part of Prince William County. Its neighbors include Lake Ridge to the east and Dale City to the south.

The area of County Center is about 2.0 square miles.

Airport Creek flows through the community. This creek is a small branch of the Occoquan Reservoir. The reservoir then flows into the Occoquan River, which eventually reaches the tidal Potomac River.
