Crag Hill is a mountain located in northern England. It sits on the western edge of the famous Yorkshire Dales area. This Crag Hill is not the same as another, taller Crag Hill found in Cumbria.
The top of Crag Hill is actually in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria. It is also right on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
What is Crag Hill?
Crag Hill is part of a group of hills, or "fells," that form a ridge. A ridge is like a long, raised line of land. Its neighbours on this ridge are Great Coum and Gragareth.
The very top of Crag Hill is about 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) away from the summit of Great Coum. Great Coum is the highest point on this ridge, standing at 687 metres (2,254 feet) tall.
Exploring the Hills
You can go on a fun circular walk that includes all three of these hills: Crag Hill, Great Coum, and Gragareth. This walk often starts near Whernside, close to the road between Ingleton and Dent.
From the top, you can see amazing views all around! You can look out over the Yorkshire Dales, the Howgill Fells, the Pennines, and even the distant Lake District.
The Yorkshire Dales Top Ten
Crag Hill is also a special spot on a long walking path called the Yorkshire Dales Top Ten (YDTT). This route is designed for experienced walkers.
The YDTT trail includes the ten highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. Walking the whole route means climbing a total of 22,000 feet (about 6,700 metres)! It's a big adventure for hikers.
