Top: In this level, Crash rolls along while inside an "Atlasphere". A menu at the top of the screen shows the number of Wumpa fruit collected, the current number of boxes broken (out of the level's box total), and the number of lives. Bottom: Another level. To Crash's left is Aku Aku, a sentient mask who protects Crash from damage. To Crash's right is a "?" platform, which leads him to a Bonus Round. Various hazards lie in front of Crash. An enemy scorpion patrols in front of the bridge, while an enemy bird hovers above a row of explosive Nitro crates on the far side of the bridge.
The game was originally intended to be designed by Mark Cerny as a free-roaming game
