Creigiau Gleision is a mountain located in Snowdonia, Wales. It is found close to the town of Capel Curig. Its name means "grey-green rocks" in Welsh. This mountain is the most eastern high peak in the Carneddau mountain range.
Creigiau Gleision is separated from other mountains in the Carneddau by Llyn Cowlyd. This is a large reservoir (a human-made lake). Across the reservoir, you can see another mountain called Pen Llithrig y Wrach. To the northeast, Creigiau Gleision connects to a wide ridge known as Cefn Cyfarwydd.
Exploring Creigiau Gleision
From the top of Creigiau Gleision, you can enjoy amazing views in every direction. You can look north towards the coast of Wales. You can also see down the Ogwen Valley and the Dyffryn Mymbyr valley. On a clear day, you might even spot Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales.
The Three Peaks
Creigiau Gleision actually has three different peaks, which might be why its name is plural. The peak furthest to the south is the tallest. It stands at 678 meters (2,224 feet) high.
The O.S. map also shows a northern peak. This peak is about half a mile away from the highest one. It reaches a height of 634 meters (2,080 feet). Between these two main peaks, there is a middle peak. This third peak is not marked on the O.S. map and does not have a stone pile (cairn) at its top.
