Croatian Americans are people in the United States whose families originally came from Croatia. In Croatian, they are called Američki Hrvati. In 2012, over 414,000 American citizens said they had Croatian family roots.
Croatian Americans are part of the larger group of European Americans. They are especially close to other Slavic Americans. Most Croatian Americans follow the Roman Catholic faith. However, some also follow other Christian religions. Many Croatian Americans live in cities like Chicago, Cleveland, New York City, Southern California, and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is home to the Croatian Fraternal Union. This group was created to help Croatian Americans in the area. Some estimates suggest that up to 1.2 million people in the United States have Croatian heritage.
