Cromwell is a small city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States. It's a quiet place with a population of 240 people, based on the 2020 census.

History of Cromwell

The area where Cromwell is located got its first post office in 1882. The town itself was officially set up in 1891. It was named by the Northern Pacific Railway, which was a big railroad company. Later, in 1903, Cromwell became an incorporated city. This means it got its own local government.

Geography and Location

Cromwell covers a total area of about 2.01 square miles (5.21 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 1.84 square miles (4.77 square kilometers), with a small part being water.

The city is located in a part of Minnesota that is quite scenic. It's about 22 miles west of a city called Cloquet. If you travel further, Cromwell is about 40 miles west-southwest of Duluth, which is a larger city on Lake Superior. It's also 22 miles north of Moose Lake.

The population of Cromwell has changed over the years. In 1910, there were 143 people living there. The number grew to 214 by 1940. After that, the population went down for a while before starting to grow again. By 2020, it reached 240 people.

According to the census from 2010, there were 234 people living in Cromwell. These people lived in 130 different homes. Most of the people were White, making up about 97.4% of the population. A small number were Native American or from other backgrounds.
