Crum Hill is a mountain in northwest Massachusetts, United States. It stands at about 2,841 feet (866 m) (which is about 866 meters) high. This makes it the highest point in Franklin County. The mountain is located in two towns: Monroe and Florida.

Crum Hill is part of the Hoosac Range. This range is a group of hills that rise up from the Hoosic River Valley. Even though Crum Hill is the highest natural point in the Berkshires, many people mistakenly think Mount Greylock is the highest. Mount Greylock is actually taller, but it's part of a different mountain group called the Taconic Mountains.

Exploring Crum Hill

Crum Hill might not have official hiking trails, but there are paths that cross it. These paths are looked after by a local group called the Florida Mountaineers. They are a snowmobile club, and they keep a map of their trails on their website. These trails make it possible to explore parts of the mountain.

Where the Water Flows

The water that falls on Crum Hill flows in different directions.

  • Water from the north and east sides of the mountain flows into Dunbar Brook. From there, it goes into the Deerfield River, then the Connecticut River, and finally reaches Long Island Sound.
  • Water from the west side flows into the Cold River, which also joins the Deerfield River.
  • Water from the south side drains into the Deerfield River through several smaller streams.

Wind Power on the Summit

The very top of Crum Hill is also home to an important project called the Hoosac Wind Power Project. This project uses wind turbines to create electricity. It's a way to use natural resources to power homes and businesses.
