Curb Museum for Music and Motorsports facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Curb Museum for Music and Motorsports is a cool place where you can explore two exciting worlds: music and NASCAR racing! This museum shows off the things that owner Mike Curb loves most – his passion for fast cars and great tunes. You can find it at 600 Dale Earnhardt Blvd in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Mike Curb has always loved motorsports, which means car racing. He also started Curb Records, a famous music company that works with many country music stars. Some of these artists include Wynonna Judd, Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams, Jr. and Lyle Lovett. Over the years, Mike Curb has even owned race cars driven by NASCAR legends like Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Dale Jarrett, Ron Bouchard, and Johnny Sauter.

What You'll See at the Museum

The museum is packed with amazing things from both music and racing.

Awesome Race Cars

You'll get to see different kinds of race cars, including:

  • NASCAR cars
  • IndyCar vehicles
  • Modified race cars

One special car on display is the #2 car that Dale Earnhardt drove when he won his very first Winston Cup Championship. You can also see the #43 car that Richard Petty drove for his 199th Winston Cup win. This car is like a twin to the one he drove for his 200th win, which is now at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.

Music Memorabilia

Besides race cars, the museum celebrates music! You'll find:

  • Pictures of popular recording artists all over the walls.
  • Life-sized cardboard cut-outs of famous singers.
  • Even some race car hoods painted with images of artists.
  • Gold record awards, which mean an album sold a lot of copies.
  • Signed posters from country and pop superstars.
  • Photos of many recording artists.

You can also see LeAnn Rimes' very first car, which was a black 1995 Dodge Viper.

North Carolina Music Hall of Fame

In December 2014, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame moved to the Curb Museum for Music and Motorsports. This means you can now see even more music history in one place! Some of the Curb Museum's NASCAR cars and racing items were moved to the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame shows off photos and items from famous musicians who are from North Carolina. This includes many different people involved in music, like:

  • Singers and musicians
  • Musical groups
  • Songwriters
  • record producers (people who help make music albums)
  • disc jockeys (DJs)
  • Journalists who write about music
