Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Curb Museum for Music and Motorsports is a cool place in Kannapolis, North Carolina. It's a museum that celebrates two exciting things: music and NASCAR racing! The museum shows off the interests of its owner, Mike Curb, who loves both music and fast cars. You can find it at 600 Dale Earnhardt Blvd.

Mike Curb has always been a big fan of motorsports, which means car racing. He also started his own music company called Curb Records. This company has worked with many famous country music singers like Wynonna Judd, Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams, Jr., and Lyle Lovett.

Over the years, Mike Curb has owned race cars driven by some of NASCAR's biggest legends. These include Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, Dale Jarrett, Ron Bouchard, and Johnny Sauter.

Exploring the Museum's Collections

The museum has a fantastic collection of race cars. You can see NASCAR cars, IndyCar vehicles, and special modified race cars. It even has LeAnn Rimes' first car, which was a black 1995 Dodge Viper.

Famous Race Cars on Display

One of the highlights is the #2 car that Dale Earnhardt drove when he won his first Winston Cup Championship. You can also see the #43 car that Richard Petty drove for his 199th Winston Cup victory. This car is a sister to the one he drove for his 200th win, which is now at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.

Music and Racing Memorabilia

The museum walls are covered with pictures of popular music artists. You'll also see life-sized cardboard cut-outs of stars. Some race car hoods even feature images of musicians! Mixed in with all the racing items are special music awards, like gold records. There are also signed posters from country and pop superstars, along with many photos of recording artists.

North Carolina Music Hall of Fame

In December 2014, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame moved to the Curb Museum for Music and Motorsports. This means you can now see even more music history there! Some of the Curb Museum's NASCAR cars and racing items were moved to the nearby NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Honoring North Carolina Musicians

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame displays photos and items from famous musicians who are from North Carolina. The people honored include singers, musicians, music groups, and songwriters. It also celebrates record producers, disc jockeys, journalists, and music teachers. Basically, anyone important in the world of music from North Carolina can be recognized here.
