History of the Music Hall
The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame started in 1994. Two businessmen, Doug Croft and Joe Carroll, created it. At first, it was in Thomasville, North Carolina. They inducted a few people in 1999 and 2002.
The museum needed more space. So, they chose an old city jail in Kannapolis as its new home. Renovations began in 2008, and the museum was ready in 2009.
A music industry leader named Mike Curb helped a lot with the move. He had ties to Kannapolis. He also helped his friend, Eddie Ray, become the operations director. Mike Curb and Eddie Ray were both inducted into the Hall in 2009. Mike Curb was honored for his support. Eddie Ray was honored for his long career in music.
In 2012, the Hall of Fame held its third induction ceremony. This event was open to the public. It took place in nearby Concord, North Carolina.
Who Can Be Inducted?
To be included in the Hall of Fame, musicians must have been born in North Carolina. Or, they must have made North Carolina their home. They can be considered 10 years after starting their music career.
It's not just for singers or musicians! Producers, music executives, and teachers can also be inducted.
