This area is named after a person called Thomas Cutts. He was from Maine. In 1810, the New Hampshire state legislature gave him a special land grant. This grant allowed him to own and use this land.

Cutt's Grant covers about 11.3 square miles (29.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land, except for small streams. The grant includes the valley of the Dry River. This river flows south and is a branch of the Saco River.
The eastern and western borders of Cutt's Grant are roughly one mile away from the Dry River. The Dry River flows into the Saco River valley at a place called Crawford Notch. This is at the southern end of the grant. The northern end of Cutt's Grant is below Oakes Gulf, which is on the southern slopes of Mount Washington. The highest point in Cutt's Grant is in its northeastern corner. This spot is just south of Gulf Peak. It reaches about 4,720 feet (1,439 meters) above sea level.
