Dürrenäsch is a small town in the Kulm area of the state of Aargau in Switzerland. It is known for its quiet setting and interesting history.

History of Dürrenäsch
Dürrenäsch was first mentioned in old writings in the year 924. Back then, it was called Aske inferior. But people lived here much earlier!
Ancient Times
- Stone Age Finds: Tools and items from the Hallstatt culture (an ancient European culture) were found on a nearby castle hill.
- Roman Era: Objects from the Roman times have been discovered in an area called Loren.
- Alamanni Graves: Graves of the Alamanni people, who lived in this region long ago, were found on Lindhügel.
Medieval Rulers
Over the centuries, different powerful families ruled Dürrenäsch:
- Lenzburg: In the High Middle Ages, the Counts of Lenzburg were in charge.
- Kyburg: In 1173, the town came under the rule of the Counts of Kyburg.
- Habsburgs: A century later, in 1273, the powerful Habsburgs family took over. They had local lords, like the Lords of Trostberg, Reinach, and Hallwyl, manage the town for them.
- Bern: From 1415 until 1798, the city of Bern controlled Dürrenäsch. Bern even bought the rights to make laws and judge cases in the village in 1433.
Village Life and Events
For a long time, Dürrenäsch was part of the Kulm church area. Since 1614, it has belonged to the Leutwil church area.
The town has seen some sad events:
- Big Fire: In 1782, a large fire swept through the village.
- Plane Crash: In 1963, Swissair Flight 306 crashed near Dürrenäsch. Sadly, all 80 people on board lost their lives.
Local Industries
Even though farming has always been important, Dürrenäsch also had other industries:
- Early Industries: In the 1700s and 1800s, people started weaving cotton and making things from straw.
- Silk and Cigars: From 1852 to 1935, the silk industry grew here. Then, from 1863 to 1950, cigars were made in the village.
- Cork and Plastics: A factory making cork products opened in 1878. Later, in the 1950s, this factory was rebuilt to make new types of insulation and plastics, becoming known as the Sagex factory.
