Seon is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Lenzburg district. It is part of the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.

Seon is nestled in the beautiful Seetal valley. It sits right by the Aabach river.

The municipality covers an area of about 9.62 square kilometers (3.71 square miles). A large part of this land, about 51.2%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 29.5% of the area. The remaining 19.8% is where buildings, roads, and other developed areas are found. A tiny part, 0.1%, includes rivers and lakes.

Most of the developed land is for homes and buildings (10.7%) and roads (4.0%). Industrial buildings make up 2.4%. The forests are mostly dense woods, with a small part having orchards. For farming, most land is used for growing crops and pastures.

People and Population

Seon has a population of about 4,209 people (as of 2022). About 22.1% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the past ten years (1997–2007), the population has stayed mostly the same.

Most people in Seon speak German, which is about 85.2% of the population. Turkish is the second most common language (3.7%), followed by Italian (3.0%).

In 2008, about 10.0% of the population were children aged 0-9 years. Teenagers aged 10-19 made up 13.0%. Adults aged 20-59 made up a larger part of the population, with people aged 40-49 being the largest group (17.0%). Older adults aged 60 and above made up about 20.6% of the population.

In 2000, there were 1,827 homes and apartments in Seon. On average, about 2.5 people lived in each home. By 2008, about 41.8% of all homes were single-family houses.

Important Historical Buildings

Seon has two buildings that are listed as important Swiss heritage sites. These are the old untere Mühle (lower mill) at Unterdorfstrasse 50 and Villa Walti at Oberdorfstrasse 28. These sites are protected because of their historical and cultural value.

Economy and Jobs

In 2007, Seon had a low unemployment rate of 1.47%. This means most people who wanted to work had jobs.

  • Farming Sector: About 78 people worked in farming and related businesses in 2005.
  • Industry Sector: About 674 people worked in factories and manufacturing.
  • Service Sector: The largest group, 1,286 people, worked in services like shops, offices, and healthcare.

Many people who live in Seon travel outside the municipality for work (about 68.7%). However, many people also come into Seon to work. About 11.6% of workers used public transportation, while 59.4% drove their own cars.

Religion in Seon

Based on the 2000 census, about 23.3% of the people in Seon were Roman Catholic. A larger group, about 56.2%, belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church. A very small number of people (0.12%) were part of the Christian Catholic faith.

Education and Learning

Many adults in Seon (about 70.3% of those aged 25-64) have completed higher education, like university or specialized colleges.

In the 2008/2009 school year:

  • 322 students attended primary school.
  • 187 students attended secondary school.
  • 93 students were in university-level schooling.

Seon also has its own school and community library, called Schul-und Gemeinde Bibliothek Seon. In 2008, the library had over 15,000 books and other media. It loaned out more than 54,000 items that year. The library was open 219 days a year, for about 12 hours each week.
