Who is Darya Klishina?
Darya Klishina is a well-known Russian long jumper. She has competed at the highest levels of athletics. This includes the Olympic Games and World Championships. She is one of the top athletes in her sport.
Her Early Life and Start in Sports
Darya Klishina was born in 1991 in a city called Tver, in Russia. When she was eight years old, she started playing volleyball. But by the time she was thirteen, she found a new passion. She switched to athletics and began training for the long jump. This decision changed her life.
Darya's Amazing Career Highlights
In 2010, Darya made an incredible long jump of 7.03 meters. This was a new record for junior athletes in Russia. It was also one of the best jumps in the world that year. Even with this amazing achievement, she did not compete in the World Junior Championships. In 2013, Darya moved from Russia to the United States. This move helped her train and compete even more.
Competing at the Olympics (2016)
In 2016, Darya Klishina was allowed to compete in the Summer Olympics in Rio. This was a special situation. The main Russian athletics team was not allowed to compete. This was because of issues with anti-doping rules. Darya was the only Russian track and field athlete allowed to participate. She was given special permission by the IAAF, the world's athletics governing body.
For a short time, this decision was changed. But Darya immediately appealed. She said she was a "clean athlete" and had proven it many times. She also mentioned that she had been tested outside of Russia for three years. On August 15, 2016, her appeal was successful. She was allowed to compete in the long jump final. Darya finished ninth in the competition. This was the first time in 20 years that Russian women did not win an Olympic medal in the long jump.
World Championships Success (2017)
In 2017, Darya competed at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London. She competed as an "authorised neutral athlete." This means she competed on her own, not representing her country's team. At this event, she won a silver medal. Her best jump was 7.00 meters, which was her best jump of the season.
