Dashon Hugh Goldson (born September 18, 1984) is an American former football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Dashon played college football for the Washington Huskies. He was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2007 NFL draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins, and Atlanta Falcons.

Dashon Goldson's Early Life
Dashon Goldson was born in Carson, California. He started playing football with the Tri-City Falcons. This was a Pop Warner team in Harbor City, California. He played high school football at Narbonne High School. As a senior, he made 130 tackles and caught six interceptions. Two of these interceptions were returned for touchdowns.
College Football Career
Goldson briefly attended Coffeyville Community College. He then went to the University of Washington. He played for the Washington Huskies football team from 2003 to 2006. He played in 43 games during his college career. He recorded 293 tackles, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles. Dashon graduated from the University of Washington in June 2006. He earned a degree in American Ethnic Studies.

Playing for the San Francisco 49ers
Dashon Goldson was picked by the San Francisco 49ers. This happened in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL draft. In his first year, he played in ten games. He made 15 tackles as a backup player. In his second year, he recorded 21 tackles.
Becoming a Starter in 2009
In 2009, the 49ers decided Goldson would be their starting free safety. He quickly showed he was ready for the role. His first game as a starter was against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers won that game 20–16. In Week 2, Goldson got his first career interception. He finished the 2009 season with 94 tackles. He also had four interceptions and forced three fumbles. This was a great start to his career as a starter.
Challenges in 2010
The 2010 season was a bit tougher for Goldson. He had 59 tackles and one interception. The 49ers team also faced challenges that year. However, they worked hard for the next season.
Pro Bowl Season in 2011
Before the 2011 season, Goldson became a free agent. He chose to sign a one-year contract and stay with the 49ers. He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. He had a career-high six interceptions and nine pass deflections. He became known as one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the NFL. In the playoffs, he intercepted a pass from Drew Brees. This play led to a touchdown for the 49ers.
Super Bowl Appearance in 2012
In the 2012 season, Goldson and the 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII. He made nine tackles in the game. However, the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens 31–34. After this season, he was named to the Pro Bowl again. He was also named to the All-Pro team for the first time. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in the league.
Time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
On March 13, 2013, Goldson signed a five-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined other new players like Darrelle Revis. In 2014, Goldson made 81 tackles for the Buccaneers.
Playing for the Washington Redskins
On April 3, 2015, Goldson was traded to the Washington Redskins. He was voted as the team's defensive captain for the 2015 season. He played one season with the team. He was released on March 7, 2016.
Short Stint with the Atlanta Falcons
On August 28, 2016, Goldson signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He joined them to help out as a backup safety. He played in four games and made one tackle. He was later re-signed by the Falcons in December 2016. Goldson was not active for the Falcons' Super Bowl LI game.

Dashon Goldson is now an assistant defensive backs coach. He worked for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 and 2024. As of 2024, Goldson is coaching with his former head coach Jim Harbaugh. They are both with the Los Angeles Chargers.
