Dashon Hugh Goldson (born September 18, 1984) is an American former professional football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Washington Huskies. The San Francisco 49ers picked him in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington Redskins, and Atlanta Falcons. Today, he works as an assistant coach.

Early Life and High School Football

Dashon Goldson was born in Carson, California. He started playing football at a young age. His first team was the Tri-City Falcons. This was a Pop Warner team in Harbor City, California.

He went to Narbonne High School in Harbor City. In his senior year, he was a star player. He made 130 tackles and caught six interceptions. Two of those interceptions he returned for touchdowns.

College Football Career

After high school, Goldson briefly attended Coffeyville Community College. Then, he moved to the University of Washington. He played for the Washington Huskies football team from 2003 to 2006.

During his college career, he played in 43 games. He made 293 tackles and caught six interceptions. He also forced two fumbles and made one sack. Goldson earned his degree in American Ethnic Studies in June 2006.

Professional Football Career

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers chose Dashon Goldson in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was the 126th player picked overall. In his first year, he played in ten games. He was a backup safety and made 15 tackles. In his second year, he made 21 tackles.

Becoming a Starter (2009)

In 2009, the 49ers decided Goldson would be their starting free safety. This was a big step for him. He proved he was ready for the challenge.

He made his first start against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers won that game 20–16. In his second game, he got his first career interception. He finished the 2009 season with 94 tackles. He also had four interceptions and forced three fumbles. This was a great start to his career as a starter.

Challenges and Success (2010-2012)

The 2010 season was a bit tough for Goldson. He had 59 tackles and one interception. But the team worked hard to improve.

In 2011, Goldson became a free agent. He decided to stay with the 49ers. That year, he was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. He had a career-high six interceptions. He also had nine pass deflections. He became known as one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the NFL. In the playoffs, he made a key interception against Drew Brees. This play helped the 49ers score a touchdown.

In 2012, Goldson had another strong season. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl again. He was also named to the All-Pro team for the first time. This means he was one of the best players in the league at his position. That season, Goldson and the 49ers reached Super Bowl XLVII. They played against the Baltimore Ravens. The 49ers lost a close game, 31–34. Goldson had nine tackles in the Super Bowl.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

In 2013, Goldson signed a big contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined other talented players like Darrelle Revis. He played two seasons with the Buccaneers. In 2014, he recorded 81 tackles.

Washington Redskins

In 2015, Goldson was traded to the Washington Redskins. He quickly became an important part of the team. He was even voted as the team's defensive captain for the 2015 season. He played one season with the Redskins before being released in March 2016.

Atlanta Falcons

Goldson signed with the Atlanta Falcons in August 2016. He joined the team to help fill a backup role. He played in four games for the Falcons. He was later re-signed by the team in December 2016. Coaching Career

After his playing career, Dashon Goldson moved into coaching. He is currently an assistant defensive backs coach. He worked for the San Francisco 49ers from 2023 to 2024. As of 2024, Goldson is coaching with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is working with his former head coach, Jim Harbaugh, there.
