David Alexander Kerr (born January 11, 1910 in Toronto, Ontario; died May 11, 1978) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He played a total of 427 games, and 327 of those were with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League (NHL).

David Kerr's Hockey Journey
Before joining the big leagues, David Kerr played amateur hockey. He was very good, and in 1930, he helped his team, the Montreal AAA senior men's team, win the Allan Cup. This was a major trophy for amateur hockey teams in Canada.
Early NHL Days
The very next season, Kerr started his professional career in the NHL, playing for the Montreal Maroons. After that, he spent a season in the IHL before returning to play two more seasons with the Maroons.
Becoming a New York Ranger
On December 14, 1934, David Kerr joined the New York Rangers. This is where he became most famous. He played six seasons for the Rangers and became their very first regular starting goalie.
Stanley Cup Champion
Kerr led the New York Rangers to a huge victory in the 1940 season, winning the famous Stanley Cup. This is one of the most important trophies in hockey!
Awards and Achievements
In that amazing 1940 season, David Kerr had a fantastic 1.54 GAA. This means he let in very few goals per game. He also had eight shutouts, which means he stopped every single shot in eight different games. Because of his great play, he was named a First Team All-Star and won the Vezina Trophy, which is given to the best goalie in the NHL. He was also a Second Team All-Star in 1938.
