The Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia is an important helper to the Prime Minister of Serbia. Think of them as a senior assistant who helps lead the government. The official name in Serbian means "Vice President of the Government of Serbia."

Usually, if different political parties work together to form the government (this is called a coalition), each smaller party might get one Deputy Prime Minister position. Their rank often depends on how big their party is.

History of the Deputy Prime Minister Role

The job of Deputy Prime Minister in Serbia started in 1991. The very first government to have these roles was led by Dragutin Zelenović. Back then, four people held the position at the same time: Slobodan Prohaska, Velimir Radivojević, Nikola Stanić, and Jovan Zebić.

Since then, it has been common for several people to be Deputy Prime Ministers at once. For example, in the government led by Zoran Đinđić, there were eight Deputy Prime Ministers at one point! Sometimes, a Deputy Prime Minister also has another job in the government, like leading a specific ministry.

As of July 2025, the current Deputy Prime Ministers are Siniša Mali (since October 26, 2022), Ivica Dačić (since October 26, 2022), and Adrijana Mesarović (since April 16, 2025).
