Derrick Jerome Martin is an American former professional football player. He was born on May 16, 1985. Derrick played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL).
He played college football for the Wyoming Cowboys. The Baltimore Ravens picked him in the 2006 NFL draft. Derrick also played for the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears. He won two Super Bowl championships during his career.

Derrick Martin's Early Life and High School Years
Derrick Martin went to Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver, Colorado. He was a great athlete there. In 2001, he helped his football team reach the state quarter-finals. The next year, in 2002, they made it to the state semifinals.
Derrick was also very good at basketball. He was the team captain for his basketball team. When he was a senior, he was named Gatorade Player of the Year. This award recognizes top high school athletes.
Derrick Martin's College Football Career
Derrick Martin chose to play college football for the Wyoming Cowboys. Coach Joe Glenn and his team recruited him.
As a freshman, Derrick quickly became an important player. In his very first game against Montana State, he recovered a blocked punt. He then ran it into the end zone for a touchdown!
In his second year, Derrick earned Second-team All-Conference honors. He helped the Wyoming Cowboys win the Las Vegas Bowl. They beat a strong UCLA team 24-21.
After his junior season in 2005, Derrick decided to enter the NFL Draft. He played in 30 college games, starting 24 of them. He finished his college career with 134 tackles and six interceptions.
Derrick Martin's Professional Football Career
Playing for the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens drafted Derrick Martin in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He was the 208th player chosen overall. He was the first player ever drafted by the Ravens from the University of Wyoming.
In his first year, he played in eight games. He made his NFL debut on October 15 against the Carolina Panthers. In 2007, he made 32 tackles for the Ravens.
Time with the Green Bay Packers
On September 5, 2009, Derrick was traded to the Green Bay Packers. He became a key player on the Packers' special teams. In 2009, he was one of the special teams captains.
In 2010, Derrick got an interception and returned it 15 yards. However, he had a knee injury on October 10, 2010, and was placed on injured reserve. The Packers released him on March 2, 2011.
Winning with the New York Giants
Derrick Martin signed with the New York Giants on August 15, 2011. He had an amazing year with the Giants. They defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. This was Derrick's second Super Bowl championship in a row! After that season, he became a free agent.
Joining the New England Patriots
On August 4, 2012, Derrick signed with the New England Patriots. He was released by the Patriots on August 31, 2012. However, they re-signed him on October 31, 2012.
Playing for the Chicago Bears
Derrick Martin signed with the Chicago Bears on August 11, 2013. He was released later that month. But the Bears brought him back on November 13, 2013. He played in seven games for the Bears that year. He made one tackle on defense and six on special teams.
After 2013, Derrick was a free agent. On February 24, 2014, he signed a one-year deal to stay with Chicago. He was waived by the Bears on May 28, 2014.
