Descendants 4: The Rise of Red is an exciting new musical fantasy movie! It's directed by Jennifer Phang and written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer. This film is made by Disney Channel and will be released on Disney+. It's a brand-new story that follows Descendants 3 (from 2019). It's the fourth movie in the popular Descendants series.
Kylie Cantrall plays Red, who is the daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. Malia Baker plays Chloe Charming, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming from Cinderella.
You'll also see some familiar faces! China Anne McClain returns as Uma, and Melanie Paxson is back as the Fairy Godmother. Plus, Brandy and Paolo Montalban play Cinderella and King Charming. They actually played these characters before in a 1997 TV movie version of Cinderella!

What is Descendants 4 About?
This movie follows Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts. She teams up with Chloe, who is the daughter of Cinderella and King Charming. They use the White Rabbit's special pocketwatch to travel through time. Their mission is to stop a big problem from happening in Auradon!

Making the Movie
How the Idea Started
After the animated special Descendants: The Royal Wedding came out in 2021, fans wondered what would happen next. Disney Branded Television's Senior Vice President, Lauren Kisilevsky, said that the ending of the special was a "tease." This was because Descendants movies often hint at more stories to come.
Later in 2021, Disney confirmed that a fourth Descendants movie was being planned. This was part of a deal with former Disney Branded Television president Gary Marsh. By May 2022, Disney+ officially approved the movie. It had a working title of The Pocketwatch. Jennifer Phang was chosen to direct, and Dan Frey and Russell Sommer wrote the script.
On March 21, 2023, the official title was announced: Descendants: The Rise of Red!
Filming Locations and Design
Filming for Descendants: The Rise of Red started in Fall 2022. Mark Hofeling, who worked on the first three Descendants movies, returned as the production designer. Director Jennifer Phang wanted the dance and action scenes to tell an emotional story.
For the look of Wonderland in the movie, Phang got ideas from the 1951 Alice in Wonderland film. She also used her own past experience in filmmaking. Filming took place in Atlanta starting in late January 2023.
Who Was Cast?
At the 2022 D23 Expo, it was announced that China Anne McClain would return as Uma. Kylie Cantrall joined as Red, and Dara Reneé as Ulyana. In November 2022, more casting news came out. Brandy Norwood returned as Cinderella, and Melanie Paxson came back as the Fairy Godmother.
New actors joining the franchise included Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts. Also, Malia Baker, Ruby Rose Turner, Morgan Dudley, and Joshua Colley joined the cast. After filming began, Jeremy Swift and Leonardo Nam were announced in February 2023. In March 2023, it was shared that Paolo Montalban was cast as King Charming.
Special Effects
Director Phang mentioned that special visual effects will be used. These effects will help make the places in the movie look even more amazing.
Music in the Movie
Descendants: The Rise of Red will feature 7 brand new songs. It will also include songs from classic animated Disney films. Get ready for some awesome musical numbers!
When Can You Watch It?
Descendants: The Rise of Red will be released on Disney+. This is the first time a Descendants movie will not be released on the Disney Channel first.
