What Happens in the Story?
New Kids from the Isle
Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos go back to the Isle of the Lost. They want to choose four new villain kids (VKs) to bring to Auradon. They pick Dizzy, who is Lady Tremaine's granddaughter. They also choose Celia, Dr. Facilier's daughter. Finally, they pick Squeaky and Squirmy, the twin sons of Mr. Smee. As the older VKs return to Auradon, Hades tries to escape the Isle. Mal stops him from breaking through the barrier.
A Royal Proposal and a Jealous Princess
The day the new kids are to arrive, Ben asks Mal to marry him. Mal says yes! Ben's ex-girlfriend, Audrey, gets very jealous. Her grandmother, Queen Leah, tells her off for not marrying Ben. Audrey can't control her jealousy. She steals the Queen's crown and Maleficent's scepter from a museum. This gives her magical powers, and she becomes a villain. After this theft and Hades' escape attempt, Mal thinks it's best to close the Isle's barrier forever.
Searching for the Ember
Audrey uses Maleficent's scepter to curse Mal. So, Mal and the other VKs go to the Isle. They need to get Hades' ember. This ember is the only thing powerful enough to break the scepter's curse. When they enter the Isle, Mal is freed from the curse. Celia helps her get into Hades' secret lair. But Hades stops them from stealing the ember. It turns out Hades is Mal's father! He reluctantly gives her the ember. He warns her not to get it wet, as it won't work fully for her. As they leave the Isle, Uma, Gil, and Harry stop them. They agree to help if Mal promises to free all the children from the Isle.
Audrey's Attack on Auradon
Meanwhile, in Auradon, Audrey attacks Jane's birthday party. She casts a sleeping curse on everyone. Chad joins Audrey. Jane escapes into an enchanted lake. The whole kingdom falls under Audrey's spell. She offers to lift the curse if Ben marries her. But he refuses. This makes Audrey angry, and she turns Ben into a beast. She also starts turning people to stone. Mal and Uma, who were arguing over who should lead the VKs, return to Auradon with their friends. Even though they had conflicts, they decide to work together to find and defeat Audrey.
Working Together to Save Auradon
They find Ben in his beast form. Carlos calms him down. Jane uses the enchanted lake water to turn him back into a human. At Evie's house, Mal and Uma make up. Evie wakes Doug with true love's kiss. Audrey traps them in the house. But they combine their magic to reverse Audrey's spell. They and their other friends reunite.
The Final Battle and a New Beginning
At the Fairy Cottage, they only find a shocked Chad. Mal admits her plan to seal off the Isle forever. The group gets upset. Celia, realizing she can never see her father again, douses the ember. Evie confronts Mal for lying to them. Suddenly, everyone except Mal turns to stone. Audrey takes Celia hostage and attacks Mal. Mal turns into her dragon form. Uma realizes she is Mal's only hope. She combines their magic to relight the ember. Mal defeats Audrey, who falls into a deep sleep. The curses are lifted. Mal and her friends make up. Mal convinces Hades to use the ember to revive Audrey. Hades does it. He points out that Audrey is forgiven easily because she is not seen as a villain. Audrey wakes up, and she, Mal, and Ben make amends.
Mal changes her mind. She tells Ben she cannot be queen unless she can help the Isle too. Ben and Fairy Godmother agree. Mal replaces the Isle's barrier with a bridge. Everyone in the newly joined society celebrates. In the end, Evie is with Doug. Carlos is with Jane. Mal and Ben are engaged. Jay and Gil plan to travel the world. Audrey becomes romantically interested in Harry after Uma turns him down.
In a short scene after the credits, Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos race across the bridge to the Isle. They go to reunite with their parents.
