White Horse Wood: A New Forest
The area near the top of Detling Hill has become a new forest called White Horse Wood. Over 20,000 trees have been planted here! These include different kinds of trees like oak, ash, silver birch, wild cherry, and crab apple. Five hectares (about 12 acres) of land have also been planted with seeds to create open grassland. This helps different plants and animals live there.
Finding the Summit
The very highest point of Detling Hill is a few hundred meters northwest of a special marker. This marker is called a trig point. It was once used by mapmakers to measure the land. Now, it's the center of a "view-finder" that helps you see what's around you.

Traces of Old Settlements
Near Detling Hill, you can find the remains of Thurnham Castle. This castle was built a very long time ago, during the Middle Ages. There are also signs of an even older settlement from the Iron Age. This shows that people lived here even before castles were built!

The name "Detling Hill" comes from the village of Detling at the bottom of the hill. The name "Detling" comes from an old language called Old English. It means "hill at the settlement of the family of a man called Dyttel." So, the hill is named after an ancient family who lived nearby.
