Dexter Township is a small community located in Mower County, Minnesota, in the United States. In 2000, about 289 people lived here. The biggest town within the township is Dexter, which had 333 residents at that time. Other parts of the township are rural areas without their own town governments. The township was named after an early settler called Dexter Parritt.

A Look Back: Dexter Township's History
Dexter Township was officially started on June 6, 1870. On that very day, the people living there held an election. They chose their first leaders, including a chairman (who was Dexter Parritt himself!), two supervisors, two justices of the peace, a clerk, and a treasurer. These leaders helped manage the township's daily life.

Places in Dexter Township

Renova
Renova is a small unincorporated area located about two miles northwest of Dexter. You can find it along Mower County Highway 2.
Sutton
Sutton used to be a small trading post many years ago. It was located on the Chicago Great Western Railway line. In 1887, its grain elevator (a building for storing grain) burned down. After that, trains stopped coming to Sutton, and the few people living there moved away. Sutton was located between Dexter and Elkton, Minnesota.
Dexter Cemetery
The Dexter Cemetery is a burial ground located on the north side of section 13 of the township, just north of the city of Dexter. The oldest known burial in this cemetery dates back to 1888.
