DiMatteo Vineyards is a special place in Hammonton, New Jersey. It's a family-owned farm that makes delicious wines. It started as a regular farm, but then the family decided to grow grapes. The first grapevines were planted in the year 2000. Two years later, in 2002, DiMatteo Vineyards opened its doors to visitors. In 2010, they even moved to a new, bigger spot in Hammonton. Today, they have 14 acres of land where they grow grapes. Each year, they produce about 1,500 cases of wine.
What Kinds of Wines Do They Make?
DiMatteo Vineyards is located in a special area called the Outer Coastal Plain AVA. An AVA is like a special zone for growing grapes. They grow many different types of grapes for their wines.
- Cabernet Franc
- Cayuga White
- Chambourcin
- Chancellor
- Chardonnay
- Concord
- Diamond
- Ives noir
- Merlot
- Niagara
- Syrah
- Traminette
- Vidal blanc
Besides grape wines, DiMatteo Vineyards also makes tasty fruit wines. These are made from fruits like apples, blueberries, cranberries, peaches, pumpkins, and strawberries. They are the only winery in New Jersey that uses the Diamond grape. This is a white grape that was first grown in New York in the 1880s.
How DiMatteo Vineyards Operates
DiMatteo Vineyards has a special permit called a farm winery license. This license lets them make a lot of wine each year, up to 50,000 gallons! It also allows them to have up to 15 other places where they can sell their wines. They can even ship up to 12 cases of wine per year to customers. This can be to people within New Jersey or in other states.
The winery is also part of some important groups. They are a member of the Garden State Wine Growers Association. They also belong to the Outer Coastal Plain Vineyard Association. These groups help wineries work together and promote New Jersey wines.
