Dino Time (also known as Back to the Jurassic in the US) is an exciting animated movie from South Korea. It's a fantasy comedy adventure film that came out on November 30, 2012, in South Korea. Later, on June 2, 2015, an English version was released. Famous voices like Melanie Griffith, Jane Lynch, William Baldwin, Stephen Baldwin, and Rob Schneider brought the characters to life!

A Trip to the Past!

Ernie Fitzpatrick (Pamela Adlon) is a super brave kid who loves adventures. He lives in a place called Terra Dino with his best friend Max Santiago (Yuri Lowenthal) and his sister Julia (Tara Strong). Julia often tells on Ernie! Their mom, Sue (Jane Lynch), is very protective and was even chosen as "Mother of the Year."

Sneaking Out and Time Travel

Ernie's mom tells him to go to the store after school. But Ernie decides to sneak off with Max to the Terra Dino Museum. They want to see the bones of a huge Sarcosuchus in a forbidden area. Julia follows them and accidentally sets off an alarm. Julia escapes, but Ernie and Max get caught. Because of this, Ernie is grounded for three weeks.

However, Ernie disobeys his mom again and sneaks out of the house. He goes to Max's house to see Max's dad, Dr. Santiago (Fred Tatasciore). Dr. Santiago has built a time machine! While Ernie and Max are looking at it, Julia shows up. She tries to call their mom. As Ernie and Max try to stop her, Ernie spills soda on the time machine's controls. This accidentally turns it on! The three kids are sent back in time 65 million years ago, to the age of dinosaurs.

Meeting Dinosaurs

When they arrive in the past, the kids meet a friendly Tyrannosaurus named Tyra (Melanie Griffith). Tyra runs a special home for young dinosaurs who don't have parents. One of these orphans is a super energetic dinosaur (Rob Schneider) who quickly becomes friends with the kids. Tyra decides to take Ernie, Max, and Julia in as her own "babies."

But not all dinosaurs are friendly. There are two evil Sarcosuchus brothers, Sarco (William Baldwin) and Surly (Stephen Baldwin). They live in the lower valley, but their home is slowly sinking into tar pits. They plan to defeat Tyra and take over her home in the upper valley. The brothers have three bird helpers: Morris (Nolan North), Borace (Tom Kenny), and Horace (John DiMaggio). These birds discover Tyra's new "babies" and mistake the time machine for a giant egg. The Sarco brothers decide to steal the time machine to trick Tyra into coming to their lair.

The Search for the Key

Back in the present time, Ernie and Julia's mom, Sue, and Max's dad, Dr. Santiago, realize the kids are gone. They also discover that Tyra's real dinosaur egg has swapped places with the time machine!

Ernie wants to explore the dinosaur world before they leave. So, he secretly hides the time machine's power key in his pocket. He tells Max and Julia that the key is missing. The next morning, the kids sneak away from Tyra to "look" for the key. They run into the energetic dinosaur from before, who accidentally makes them fall into a river. This dinosaur helps them avoid big rocks in the river, so they decide to name him Dodger.

While in the river, the power key falls out of Ernie's pocket. Horace, one of the bird helpers, finds it and swallows it! After Tyra brings everyone back to her nest, the kids and Dodger have fun. Meanwhile, in the present, Sue and Dr. Santiago start building their own time machine using Sue's car.

Trapped in the Past?

The next day, the group follows tracks from Morris and his gang. But it's a trick! The bird helpers steal the time machine. Luckily, as they leave, Horace spits out the power key. When the group returns to the nest, Ernie finds the key. He then admits that he hid it earlier, which makes Julia and Max upset.

The kids are scared to find the time machine gone. They worry they are stuck in the dinosaur era forever! But Ernie has an idea. They can write a message with instructions for the time machine on a special rock. This rock, called Mystery Rock, exists in both the past and the present. Their parents will see it and know how to find them.

The Final Battle

Before they can write the message, Morris and his gang capture Julia. They want to use her to lure Tyra to the lower valley. When the kids and Tyra reach the Sarco Brothers' lair, Tyra fights the brothers and knocks them out. The kids and Tyra try to escape, but Ernie gets separated. Morris and his gang chase him. Before they can catch him, Dodger plays a trick, scaring the birds into a tar pit.

Meanwhile, in Dr. Santiago's house, Tyra's real egg hatches! The baby dinosaur escapes and causes a mess. Sue and Dr. Santiago catch it with hamburgers. They still can't get their time machine to work. But then, Sue sees the message on Mystery Rock! She realizes that spilling soda on the controls is what activates the time machine.

Back in the lower valley, the Sarco Brothers wake up. Ernie, Max, and Julia know Tyra can't fight them alone. They decide to help her, even if it means missing their chance to go home. The time machine sinks into a tar pit. Julia blinds Surly, and Ernie throws his rocket-powered skateboard into Surly's mouth. The skateboard blasts Surly into lava, defeating him. Sarco attacks, but Tyra, though weak, stops him. When Sue and Dr. Santiago arrive, Tyra gets her strength back and pushes Sarco into a tar pit, defeating him too.

Sue first thinks Tyra is an enemy. But the kids explain everything. They all leave the lower valley together. Before the humans return home, Dr. Santiago reunites Tyra with her real baby. As the humans head back, Ernie tells Sue he didn't write the message. He was busy saving Julia. They soon realize Dodger wrote it when they see him in the time machine with them!
