Dorf is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It's in the district of Andelfingen, within the canton of Zürich. The German word Dorf actually means "village"!

A Look Back: Dorf's History
Dorf was first mentioned a very long time ago, in the year 1044. This mention was found in an old document. For many years, until 1699, Dorf was part of the church parish of Andelfingen. After that, it became its own independent Protestant parish.
What's in a Name? The Village of Dorf
The name "Dorf" simply means "village" in German. Because of this, you might find other places called "Dorf" in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. However, in Switzerland, Dorf is the only municipality with just this name. There are also smaller villages or hamlets that are called "Dorf" or "Dörfli" (which means "little village"), or whose names end in "-dorf."

Dorf covers an area of about 5.5 square kilometers (about 2.1 square miles). A large part of this area, 52.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover 40.6% of the land. The remaining 6.7% is where buildings and roads are located. The municipality is situated right at the entrance to the Flaacker river valley.

As of 31 December 2020, Dorf has a population of 666 people. In 2007, about 6.7% of the people living in Dorf were from other countries. Over the past 10 years, the population has grown by about 20.3%. Most people in Dorf speak German (95.4%). English is the second most common language (1.3%), and Serbo-Croatian is third (1.3%).
Elections and Education
In the 2007 election, the most popular political group was the SVP, which received 55.5% of the votes. Other popular groups included the SPS (9.5%) and some local left-wing parties (9%). The people of Switzerland are generally well educated. In Dorf, about 84.6% of adults (aged 25-64) have finished either a non-mandatory upper secondary education or a higher education, like university.
