Dougie Lee Poynter (born 30 November 1987) is an English musician, songwriter, and author. He is best known as the bassist for the popular pop rock band McFly. Dougie also won the TV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2011.

Early life and school
Dougie Poynter was born in Orsett, England. He grew up in Corringham. He went to Herd Lane Primary School and then to Gable Hall School. Dougie has one sister.
Music career
McFly's journey
In 2003, when Dougie was just 15 years old, he joined the English band McFly. He became their bass player. The band members are Dougie, Tom Fletcher (vocals and guitar), Danny Jones (guitar and vocals), and Harry Judd (drums).
McFly quickly became famous. Their first song, "Five Colours in Her Hair," came out in March 2004. It went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. Their first album, Room on the 3rd Floor, also reached number one. This earned McFly a Guinness World Record. They were the youngest band to have a first album top the charts. The Beatles held this record before them.
In 2004, McFly toured with the band Busted. After that, McFly started their own tours. They released more albums like Wonderland (2005) and Motion in the Ocean (2006). Later albums included Radio: Active (2008) and Above the Noise (2010).
In 2012, McFly released a "greatest hits" album called Memory Lane: The Best of McFly. They also wrote their first autobiography, McFly: Unsaid Things... Our Story. In 2016, McFly announced their "Anthology tour." They played all five of their albums live. This was their first tour together since 2013.
McBusted: A supergroup
In November 2013, McFly teamed up with the band Busted. They formed a supergroup called McBusted. They went on a huge tour in 2014. It was called The McBusted Tour. This tour was the biggest in the UK that year. McBusted even played for over 60,000 people in Hyde Park. In 2015, they went on a second tour called McBusted's Most Excellent Adventure Tour.
INK: A new sound
In 2018, Dougie announced a new alt-rock band called INK. He formed it with Todd Dorigo and Corey Alexander. They released their first music, an EP called Heaven, and planned a small UK tour. However, Dougie later left the band. This was because McFly got back together.
Fashion and style
Dougie Poynter is also known for his interest in fashion. In 2016, he walked the runway for a fashion show in London. He often attends fashion weeks around the world. Top brands like Topman and Burberry invite him. People admire his unique personal style. Dougie has also written about fashion for Fault Magazine. He has appeared in fashion magazines like Vogue India and Notion Magazine.
Writing songs
Besides writing songs for McFly, Dougie has also written for other famous artists. He helped write songs for 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction. For example, he co-wrote "I Would" for One Direction's album Take Me Home. He also worked with Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) and Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low). They helped create the album for the McBusted supergroup.

Children's books
Dougie has written several children's books. He wrote The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas with his McFly bandmate Tom Fletcher. This book sold over 72,000 copies. It became the most popular new children's book of 2012. They released a follow-up book, The Dinosaur That Pooped A Planet, in 2013. Dougie also wrote Plastic Sucks!: How YOU Can Reduce Single-Use Plastic and Save Our Planet in 2019.
Helping the planet
Dougie cares a lot about the environment. He actively supports The 5 Gyres Institute. This group works to stop plastic pollution in the ocean. He wants to ban tiny plastic pieces called microplastics in Europe. He believes they harm ocean life.
Charity work
Dougie and McFly have also helped many charities. They have raised money for groups like Comic Relief and Children in Need. They also supported Live 8, Sport Relief, and Earth Hour.
Clothing brands
Dougie has started several clothing lines. His skate clothing brand, Zookie, is still active. He also founded Saint Kidd and Polonius, which are no longer running.
