How the Show Was Made
Developing the Story
Work on the Dracula series started in June 2017. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat teamed up again to write the episodes. In October 2018, the BBC officially ordered the series. It was planned to air on BBC One and Netflix. Claes Bang was chosen to play Dracula in November 2018. The writers wanted their Dracula to be the main character of his own story. He is the central focus, not just a villain. They wanted to honor the original book while also adding new ideas.
Choosing the Actors
In February 2019, many actors joined the cast. These included John Heffernan, Dolly Wells, Joanna Scanlan, Morfydd Clark, and Lujza Richter. Mark Gatiss also appeared in the series. In April, more actors like Jonathan Aris and Sacha Dhawan joined. The directors for the episodes were Jonny Campbell, Damon Thomas, and Paul McGuigan.
Filming Locations
Filming for the series began on March 4, 2019. They filmed in beautiful locations in Slovakia, such as Orava Castle and Banská Štiavnica. They also filmed at Bray Studios in Berkshire, England. Bray Studios is famous for being where many classic horror films were made.
The Opening Titles
The show's opening title sequence was created by Peter Anderson Studio. It was even nominated for a BAFTA award in 2021 for its design.

How the Show Was Broadcast
The Dracula series first showed on BBC One starting January 1, 2020. Each of the three episodes aired on a different day. All three episodes became available on Netflix on January 4, 2020. A special documentary called In Search of Dracula, hosted by Mark Gatiss, also aired. It explored the history of the famous Count. Many people watched the show, with millions tuning in for each episode.
