Drew LeBlanc's Hockey Journey
Starting in Junior Hockey
Drew LeBlanc began his hockey career in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He played for the Chicago Steel from 2006 to 2008. After that, he moved on to play college hockey for the St. Cloud State Huskies.
College Years and a Big Award
Drew became the captain of the St. Cloud State team for the 2011-2012 season. He got injured early that year, but he was able to come back for the 2012-2013 season. He continued to be the team captain and had an amazing year, scoring 50 points in 42 games. His great performance led him to win the Hobey Baker Award in 2013. This award is like the Heisman Trophy for college football, but for ice hockey!
Playing in the NHL and AHL
After his successful college career, Drew signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on April 12, 2013. He made his first appearance in the NHL on April 24, 2013. He played two games for the Blackhawks during the 2012–13 NHL season.
Later, he signed another contract with the Blackhawks. For the next two seasons, he played for their minor league team, the Rockford IceHogs. This team is part of the American Hockey League (AHL), which is a step below the NHL.
Moving to Germany
After his time with the Blackhawks and IceHogs, Drew became a free agent. This meant he could sign with any team he wanted. On July 10, 2015, he decided to move to Germany. He signed a one-year contract with the Augsburger Panther team in the DEL. He played for Augsburg for eight seasons, becoming a very important player for them.
In 2017, he signed an extension to stay with the team. After many years with Augsburg, Drew left the club in 2023. He then signed a one-year contract with the Iserlohn Roosters for the 2023–24 season, continuing his career in the DEL.
