East China Sea facts for kids
The East China Sea is a large part of the Pacific Ocean. It is located just east of China. This sea covers a huge area of about 1,249,000 square kilometers (482,000 square miles). In China, people often call it the East Sea. In Korea, it is sometimes known as the "South Sea", though this name usually refers to the area closer to South Korea's southern coast.

Geography
The East China Sea is surrounded by several countries and islands. To the east, you'll find Kyūshū and the Ryūkyū Islands of Japan. To the south, it borders Taiwan. On its western side is mainland China.

This sea is connected to other important bodies of water. The Taiwan Strait links it to the South China Sea. The Korea Strait connects it to the Sea of Japan. To the north, the East China Sea opens up into the Yellow Sea.
