Éclagnens was a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the Gros-de-Vaud District in the canton of Switzerland. It was a part of Switzerland until July 1, 2011.
On that date, Éclagnens joined with two other nearby towns, Goumoens-la-Ville and Goumoens-le-Jux. Together, they formed a brand new, larger town called Goumoëns.

History of Éclagnens
Éclagnens has a long history! It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1265. Back then, it was called de Clanens.

Éclagnens covers an area of about 2.14 square kilometers (which is about 0.83 square miles). Think of it like a small park or a few hundred football fields!

Most of the land in Éclagnens is used for farming. About 78% of the area is farmland, where crops are grown or animals graze. Forests cover about 14.5% of the land, providing green spaces. The remaining 5.6% is where buildings and roads are located.

Éclagnens is located right in the middle of the Gros-de-Vaud region. Before 2006, it was part of the Échallens District. But then, the districts were reorganized, and Éclagnens became part of the new Gros-de-Vaud District.
Éclagnens Coat of Arms
The coat of arms for Éclagnens is quite interesting. It is red with a gold border. In the center, it shows two golden fish-like shapes that are facing away from each other. This design is a special symbol for the town.

In 2009, Éclagnens had a population of 113 people. Over the ten years before that (from 1999 to 2009), the number of people living there grew quite a bit, by over 80%! Most of this growth was because new people moved into the town.
