Eddie Lowe was born on February 1, 1960. He is a former linebacker who played nine seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Eddie Lowe joined the CFL in 1983 after playing at the University of Alabama. Today, he is the mayor of Phenix City, Alabama. He is the first African-American mayor of Phenix City.

Eddie Lowe's Football Journey
Eddie Lowe started playing American football at Central High School in Phenix City. He first went to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. After a year, he moved to the University of Alabama. There, he joined the football team as a walk-on player. This means he joined without a scholarship.
Playing for the Roughriders
Eddie's older brother, Woodrow Lowe, also played football at Central High and Alabama. Woodrow later played in the NFL. Eddie was considered too small for the NFL, standing at 5 feet 10 inches. However, he was a great fit for Canadian football. He joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
In 1989, Eddie Lowe helped his team win the 77th Grey Cup. This is the championship game of the CFL. He was also named a CFL all-star that year. Eddie Lowe retired from playing football after the 1991 CFL season.
Coaching After Playing
After his professional playing career, Eddie Lowe continued to be involved in football. From 1992 until at least 2012, he volunteered as an assistant coach. He coached at his old high school, Central High School. He worked alongside his brother Woodrow, helping young players.
Eddie Lowe's Political Career
After retiring from football, Eddie Lowe started a new career. He began working as a banker. This was before he became mayor.
Becoming Mayor of Phenix City
Before becoming mayor, Lowe served as the president of the Phenix City Board of Education. He held this important role for ten years. In 2012, he ran for mayor of Phenix City. He won the election with 64 percent of the votes. This made him the first African-American mayor of Phenix City. He won by a large amount, so there was no need for a second election.
Personal Life
Eddie Lowe is married and has three children. His brothers are College Football Hall of Fame member Woodrow Lowe and James Lowe, Jr.
