Woodrow Lowe (born June 9, 1954) is a former American football player. He was a talented linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). Lowe played for the San Diego Chargers from 1976 to 1986. Before that, he played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was coached by the famous Bear Bryant from 1972 to 1975.

College Football Success
Woodrow Lowe went to Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. After high school, he joined the University of Alabama football team in 1972. He quickly became a star player.
All-American Honors
Lowe was named an All-American three times. This means he was recognized as one of the best college football players in the country. He earned this honor in 1973, 1974, and 1975. Only one other Alabama player has achieved this.
Championship Teams
During his time at Alabama, Lowe helped his team win many titles. They won four Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships. They also won one national championship in 1973.
Tackling Records
Lowe was excellent at making tackles. He holds the Alabama record for most tackles in a single season. He made 134 tackles in 1973 when he was a sophomore. Overall, he ranks third in Alabama history with 315 career tackles.
Playing for the San Diego Chargers
After his impressive college career, Woodrow Lowe entered the 1976 NFL draft. The San Diego Chargers picked him in the 5th round. He was the 131st player chosen overall.
Durability and Skill
Lowe played for the Chargers for eleven years. He was known for being very tough and rarely missing games. In his entire NFL career, he missed only one game! This shows how reliable he was.
Lowe was also very good at defending against passes. This was special for a linebacker. He made 21 interceptions during his time with the Chargers. Four of these interceptions were returned for a touchdown.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing football, Lowe became a coach. He spent six years coaching in the NFL. He worked as a defensive assistant for the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.
High School and College Coaching
Lowe later returned to coach at his old high school, Central High School. He helped them win a state championship in 1993. He also coached at the college level for the UAB Blazers. Later, he coached at Smiths Station High School. He also served as an assistant coach at Jackson-Olin High School in Birmingham.
In 2009, Lowe became the head coach at his alma mater, Central High School, again. He coached there until 2014. He also coached at Selma High School from 1994 to 1995.
