Exploring Eden's Geography
Eden is one of the biggest towns in Vermont when you look at its total area. Most of the town is land, but it also has some water. The main villages, Eden and Eden Mills, are in the middle of the town. Eden is to the west, and Eden Mills is to the east.
Rivers and Trails
The Gihon River flows through the center of Eden. It eventually joins the Lamoille River. Other parts of the town have streams that also flow into the Lamoille River. The famous Long Trail passes through Eden. This trail follows the top of the Green Mountains.
Main Roads
Vermont Route 100 goes right through the middle of Eden, connecting the villages of Eden and Eden Mills. This route can take you northeast to Newport or southwest to Hyde Park. Another road, Route 118, starts in Eden village and goes northwest to Montgomery.
Nature Spots
The Babcock Nature Preserve is in the northwest part of Eden. It's a special place for geology and biology students from Johnson State College and other Vermont state colleges. They use it to study rocks, plants, and birds.
Lake Eden is a popular spot in the summer. Many people like to visit for outdoor fun. There's even a lottery each year to reserve spots for RVs!
Eden Notch is a natural area at the northern edge of Eden, also along Route 100.

Belvidere Mountain Mine
From 1936 to 1993, there was an asbestos mine on Belvidere Mountain in Eden. After the mine closed, it left behind a lot of leftover material called "mill tailings." These tailings were a concern for the environment. The state has been working to address the situation and ensure the safety of the area.
