Edenhall is a small, clustered village in Cumbria, England. It is located in the Westmorland and Furness area. The village is now part of the larger area called Langwathby. You can find St Cuthbert's Church right here in Edenhall.

The village gets its name from an old house called Eden Hall. This house used to be the home of the important Musgrave family. Many members of this family were part of the British Parliament. In 1931, Edenhall was a separate area with 216 people living there. Later, in 1934, it officially joined with Langwathby.

The Historic Eden Hall Building

The original Eden Hall was a very old house. In the 1700s, it was made bigger using parts from Hartley Castle. This castle was the ancient home of the Musgrave family.

The house was rebuilt in 1821 by a famous architect named Sir Robert Smirke. It was rebuilt again in the late 1860s. This time, it was made of white stone in a style called "Italianate." This means it looked like buildings from Italy.

In the early 1900s, the Musgrave family moved to London. They sold Eden Hall. The grand house was torn down in 1934. However, some parts of the old building still remain. The courtyard, which used to have stables and coach houses, is still there. It has been divided into seven homes, and some of the old stables are still visible.

The Famous Luck of Edenhall

Eden Hall was once home to a very special item called the Luck of Edenhall. This is a beautiful glass cup from the 1300s. It is made of enamel and gilt, which means it has colorful designs and gold decoration.

The cup was owned by the Musgrave family for a long time. It is still in perfect condition today. There's a famous old story that says the cup was stolen from fairies! However, experts now know it's actually an Islamic piece of art from the 14th century.

Today, the Luck of Edenhall is kept safe in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
