History of Elba
The city of Elba was first planned and settled in 1856. It was named after the famous island of Elba, which is located off the coast of Italy. Many of the first people to build up the city were German families from Luxembourg.
Elba had its own post office for many years, from 1858 until 1965. This helped people send and receive mail easily.
In 2007, the town experienced a big flood. This happened on August 18, 2007, when the dikes (walls built to hold back water) along the Whitewater River broke. This caused the river to overflow and flood parts of the town.
